We just finished dynoing one of our Porsches and it had some choppiness up top also. We found out that the spark plug gap needed to be closed a bit and we were blowing out spark. This was noticable due to a dip in the air fuel towards rich at the same area as the choppiness. We also started to fall on our faces horsepower wise at this area in the power band.

Just a suggestion.

I would take your plugs out and see if you can visually see detonation and maybe check the gap on them.

Good luck.

You know what? That's the first thing that the local tuner suggested last Saturday after it was dynod... I'll definitely add that to my list of things to do.

I'm not even sure what they're gapped to right now. I'm just running the utec and no DLI so spark may be kind of weak. Jeremy had previously suggested before running a .022 or so which is almost half stock gap.

Thanks!

I would definitly look into it. It is about the cheapest and quickest thing that you can do with minimal time. When we did it to our Porsche we significant saw horsepower gains and this was only at four pounds of boost (keep in mind this is an 1985 lol).

Here is the intial dyno with stock gapped plugs. You can see power flatten as the A/F dips down which is when spark was blowing out. One thing I noticed is that this SC comes on way harder than the previous SC brands we have used due to the impeller design. That seemed to have a significant impact on our gapping technique compared to previous supercharger systems we have built for Ferrari and Porsche.

This link claims 3 days. I would give them a call and let them know your builder thinks your brand new 750's are giving trouble - and ask them to test them for you at no charge. Either that or swap you out a new set (they are all flow tested individually).

Lol. We try to do as little on the computer as possible when we tune our cars.

You can actually see pictures of the car in my Z33Art thread (sorry for the OT).

suscribing...

I had this same issue ( sounds like BBs Pinging) after I had my TN setup Tuned with a UTEC. Could never really figure out what it was. I changed fuel setup and everything. Happened only under high boost. I then returned to my Tn fuel setup and ran the flash (no utec) and the noise went away :/ ??? GL with solving this Craig

What tire size are you running in the front 255/??/18s and back 295/??/18s? What wheel width and suspension are you running....I like its aggressive stance...

Yep. Here's the video. This is from when the queiter exhaust was on it. I'm glad I got this because with the loud exhaust now it would be a lot harder to hear.

Awesome work on a very custom T.N. setup! Hope this doesn't open a can of worms but....
I love the turbo blanket, looks real clean. Is there any issue with insulating in the heat? Where did you pick that up at?
Thanks man and again nice job!

Thanks. The turbo blanket was from Phase 2 motorsports. When I got the car back the shiny covering was peeling off and generally looking disgusting so I just took it out and painted it with regular enamel (that metallic gunmetal color). It turned out looking ok.

Actually, it's not really that bad. I drove around all weekend in a torrential downpour and just made sure to drive at slower speeds and not make any sudden turns. There were a few times I turned a little harder to get the rear end to break out and it wasnt really that bad...

I'd be interested in seeing how those R's compare from a roll. I haven't noticed much of an improvement with the DR's unless they're actually heated up first via a burnout. In hindsight, my KDW2's weren't too bad on this setup with the later spool. I've considered going back to KDW2's on my 18's so I can roll on a baller offset during the summer months when no one is drag racing at the strip.
