Default Forged Performance: Insane 350z Roadster Build...quest for the FI's Top 5

Hey guys, I've heard a few of you comment that the FI section has been a bit slow and you missed the frequent build threads. Rest assured we've been busier than ever and just when you thought these types of builds didn't happen on the 350z anymore, something like this comes along. So here's our contribution.

Mark's car came to us all the way from Wisconsin, originally wanting us to troubleshoot a smoking Turbonetics single turbo. Well one idea led to the next and this is the type of build that we came up with. This may be one of the most extreme cases of the snowball effect we have ever seen. And at last, we've found something that those old unreliable TN turbos are good for; as a springboard to the top of the performance food chain. It looks like this is going to be one of the most exciting builds we will be working on this winter.

The current goals for the car are 700-750whp on our Dyno Dynamics as well as shooting for a spot in the top 5 on the FI's top 50 list in this section ( https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...p-50-list.html ), where Forged still has a VERY strong presence to this day. Several cars on that list were built or tuned by Forged including the top 2 spots Another goal is also to keep this car very comfortable and fun on the street. I will keep this thread posted with updated progress and pictures throughout the build. Below you will find the insane mod list that we have for this project. I'm keeping the list shortened to the major parts as I feel it would be too long to include the small parts. Work has already begun and it looks to be a fun build. Like many of these monster builds, they have a tendancy to take on a life of their own...anything is possible.

We are going from near stock, to near XKR levels of performance and beyond...and all in one visit to Forged.

The Short List:

Brian Crower Stroker Kit (Carrillo Rods & CP Pistons) **Oil Squirters Retained **
Greddy 20G TT Kit
Greddy Turbo Ti-C Exhaust
JWT C8 Camshafts
SuperTech Valvetrain:
- 1mm Oversized Valves
- Inconel Exhaust Valves
- Dual Valve Springs
- Billet Cam Followers (Lifter buckets)
ID 1000cc Injectors
HKS Fcon VPro 3.30
HKS Camp2 and about a half dozen sensors
HKS EVC6 Boost Controller
HKS Twin Bank AFK Knock Amp
CJM Twin Pump
CJM Stage 1 & 2 Fuel System
Cosworth Intake Plenum
Carbonetic 1.5 LSD
OS Giken Triple Disc Clutch
StopTech Trophy Series BBK 6/4
DSS Level 5 Axle Upgrade
HRE Custom Spec 560R Wheels 19x9.5/19x11
Toyo R888 265/30/19 Front Tires
Toyo R888 305/30/19 Rear Tires
Koyo Radiator
Stillen Oil Cooler
SPC Camber Arms F/R
JRZ RS Coilovers

^^That's just the big stuff^^

Questions, comments, and discussion welcome

Mark's car upon arrival: (sorry for the closeups, I foolishly forgot to take good pictures from a distance upon arrival)

We quickly found the source of the smoke coming from the Turbonetics kit...

What is the cause for all those holes in the up pipe? Never seen anything like it.

that looks like someone cut them with a cut of wheel, or maybe the pipe was very thin at that location?

Now that I look at it again, I would say that was done with a plasma cutter. There is no way for that to "just happen".

The slot farthest away from the v-band is where a tab is (was) welded to support the turbo. I expect there may have been one near the v-band also. I've seen this exact thing before on the Turblownetics kit. The weld is stronger than the pipe, and the tab isn't properly gusseted so it says, "Peace out, fool," and breaks off.

This should be a cool build, keep up with the updates Ryan!

Thin materials and poor welding. They break from heat, stress, and vibration. Seen these TN kit pipe breaks many times before.
It's a junky kit.

Wow, that is a pile of crap. Thanks for clearing it up. At first it just looked like a cut..didn't think they would weld brackets on there so poorly.

Ryan, at the risk of generating more paint job comments by Mr. De La Money and the crew, here's the pictures you didn't get. Thanks for making this build happen!

Humor me and set this car up with an E85 map. If he's in WI, he has plenty access to it.

so do it....

government subsidized race fuel. Sure you have to use 30-40% more fuel, but it's about a buck/gallon cheaper than premium, and you will make some pretty serious power. My evo pulled 23% more hp on corn than pump..... and it spools faster.

I am seriously considering switching my Z over, or at least getting a second map done

With those goals you'll probably need a triple pump for E85.
