Yeah, I told Larry that the Chris@SP account still appears to be active. Agreed that everyone loses in this situation. I unfortunately know this first hand due to being ripped off on an auto trans build a couple years ago. I never recouped the losses from that.
torque converter is back.. and as we found out, there was nothing special done to it... now, on the other hand, it's all good
I'm interested to know how that torque converter got built? Typically that style of converter isn't good for power. I went with a Circle D billet in my TH400.
we use coan in a our race car (runs 7s in a 1/4 mile), but since was not a coan converter from the beginning they weren't sure if they can make it work or not, but they were able to... but i am not exactly sure what exactly they did to it... but we'll see once it's up and running.

I'm sure they had to do quite a bit. I had a similar converter from TCI and the trans shop I know that also does 7s cars said it wouldn't even be worth it. Looking forward to results! It has been a long time coming for Vlad since I last saw his car at SP like three years ago.
Quamen, can you explain what the mechanical differences are that preclude the necessary modifications across different models? My understanding was that all TCs are fundamentally similar.

The functionality of a TH350/400 converter is essentially the same across the board. However there are some different dimensions and material specifications between converters to accommodate for their application. Some do not have very strong casings because they are not designed for high rpm's or pressures while others will have beefy cases.
My particular converter has an entire billet backplate to prevent it from ballooning during high pressure situations.
