Default IPS Project G35 Sedan.... MONSTER! ver 2

I don't know if any of you remember me or not, but I am Stas, Vlad's brother. Well long story short, I have my own performance shop now and I took Vlad's G35 over to me from SP... (https://my350z.com/forum/shop-builds...n-monster.html)

I don't want to say anything about the craftsmanship of SP or anything of that kind, but let's just say that the car had issues that we are dealing with and also making it better.

As we know car made ~950 rwhp according to SP... well, on my dyno it only made ~700 rwhp so we started to look into it.

First problem was the intercooler, it was leaking... so we made our own custom one! It is a Bell 6" intercooler core with custom end tanks.

After we did this, we put it back on the dyno and the car made even less and what we found out was that the torque converter is slipping, pretty much entire 3rd gear just blows through...

Well we had a track day this Friday and I took it out anyway to get some seat time in it and just to see if there are any other issues that might come up. Made around 4-5 passes on low boost and ran 11.8 which is not bad for the first time and when I was about to up the boost, transmission started to push the fluid through the overflow tank and I had to stop. Later that day we yanked the TH400 out and we will be shipping it out to the shop I deal with, transmission will go out to RPM Transmissions and the torque converter will go out to Coan.

But I have some great pics from the track so enjoy

Plans for the car:
- Switch clutch fans to electric ones
- Swap exhaust housings from .63 A/R to at least .82 A/R
- May be water-2-air
- Swap out the wheel studs to 12x1.5 because "the other shop" installed Welds with just regular conical lug nuts and apparently no one makes shank style lug nuts in 12x1.25 thread pattern
- Rebuild the TH400
- Rebuild the torque converter
- May be swap out the front bumper to 05-06 style with better airflow
- May be change out the shifter
- 5 Point harness
- Padding for the cage
- Convert from C16 to Q16 and finally make over 1k rwhp
- Hook up nitrous

Would love to see the dyno plot. Odd for a built TH400 to fail - how big is your trans cooler and what kind of temps did you see? Good luck with the rebuild.

it's not the TH400 that failed, but a torque converter. we are sending trans out just in case.

any way to share your proefi map? wondering what some of the setup values were compared to my SP map.

good luck with finishing it off.

0,82 is the biggest housing you can use since its only a t3 flange.

also some news on the TH400 rebuild... as it turns out, the "BUILD" transmission that Vlad paid a lot of money for, is apparently bone stock transmission out of 60s chevy truck...

so all those internals got thrown away and trans is getting done on monday, once all the parts come in and we should have it back by tuesday... I will also have pics of internals next to new good ones

Sorry and surprised to hear about all of this... Was wondering what happened to Vlad's G and have been anxiously awaiting some awesome 1/4 mile times.

Who does SP outsource their auto trans builds to?

Exclamation

Just chatted with Larry on AIM. He said he tried to respond to this thread, but he can't post from his SP account because it's showing that he's banned. So I'll relay exactly what he told me...

"The tranny shop that we used 4 years ago ripped me off on 4 or 5 trannies. Paid for built ones and we got almost stock ones. Needless to say we no longr use them. Tell them not to go to DRC in Elk Grove Village!"

The Chris@SP account is not showing up as banned. I hope SP does right by Vlad even though it wasn't their fault. They still chose the subcontractor... Everyone loses in this type of scenario but based on what I've heard of SP, I'm sure they will come through for their customer!
