Default Volk GT7 - wheel widening

I currently have Volk GT7's -- 19x9.5 with a +24 offset in the rear. I'm thinking about getting these widened by a shop here in Michigan (weldcraft wheels) so they would be 19x10.5 inch wheels. The additional inch would obviously come on the inside part of the wheel, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if I have the one inch to spare on the inside of the wheel (without rubbing)?

I want to put Toyo R888's (295/30/19) on the rear to improve traction in my built TTZ (without having to buy 2 new rims). Can anyone help me out with how much room I have on the inside with the above 19x9.5 +24 wheel? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't. The barrel is forged and any welding will weaken the wheel. Suck it up and buy new wheels. You can always sell these.

295's will fit on a 9.5+ wheel already with a little bit of pudge.

I was under the impression that a good weld would be every bit as strong as the original wheel, but what do I know?

I know a guy that had this done with his stock track wheels and they turned out nice. They are forged as well.

Also remember that because you're not changing the offset of the hub, you're going to have backspacing issues because they're actually extending the wheel inward. You'll most likely have to run some thick spacers as well.

I would personally rather just sell the 9.5" wheels and get some new 10.5" wheels. If you were going to widen them, at least go with something like 11" or wider so you're not just making them the same width as normal volk wheels.

I assume you have 8.5" wheels up front as well, so you would be better off moving the 9.5" up front and widening the 8,5" wheels to 10.5" if you still plan on doing this

This is exactly what I thought too, but one of the vendors on here (TD4L) refused to sell the wheels to me because of my 9.5 inch wheels.

I currently have the Toyo T1R 285/30/19 tires. Specs on these according to Toyo are:
25.8 overall dia,
11.2 overall width, and
12.1 static load radius.

These fit perfect on my 19x9.5 wheel with 0 bulge.

The specs on the 295/30/19 R888's are very close to these. They are:
26.0 overall dia,
11.7 overall width, and
12.2 static load.

Based on the above information, I initially thought that the R888's would fit fine on a 9.5 inch rim with possibly a little bulge. I also know that there are other members on here that think the same. I think we're right and may buy these tires somewhere else.

I may end up getting new wheels, but I really like the ones I have. Plus, I'm trying to save all my extra money for a new GTR.

Shawn,

I run 295/30s on 10s with no bulging whatsoever. DT said even with 305s they bulge out just a little bit. I know you're running 9.5s, but this should give you a little perspective. I'd get 295s from someone else and stay with the 9.5".

By the time it is all said and done you will probably have spent more money getting the wheels widened and spaced properly than you would have if you just sold these wheels about bought some wider ones.

The weld is stronger than the parent metal, not sure about forged though...

Exactly, the weld is strong, but it weakens the material around it.
