Hello everyone! I recently purchased this 07 Z Touring edition clean title as my first car. It's San Marino Blue and has 46k miles with some upgrades from previous owner. Everything for 15k and she's my new baby.

Now I'm new to to MT and need some advice/tips from the community. I'm learning to shift much smoother than before (little to none jerking). I'm coasting whenever possible. I shifts at 2-2.5k RPM, sometimes skipping gears like 1-3, 4-6. The problem is that I'm only getting 17.5 MPG. I just don't know how to improve this. I tried driving on the highway (60 Cruise) but not much improvement. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

 

Shifting at the right RPMs and cruising at 60mph is a good start. How heavy is your foot while excellerating? That car looks great by the way! I'm ussually not a big fan of that kit but it looks superb on your car. And I LOVE San Marino blue! Welcome to the community.

 

I average around 22-24 cruising at around 60-80 on a 13 mile trip to work, staying in 6th as much as I can. The 22-24mpg average usually includes a few hard pulls and maybe a total of 10 minutes of high rpm driving just for fun. Play around, reset your avg mpg everytime you fill up and see what works best.

Car looks gorgeous, paint your door handles, it'll bring all that black together nicely.

Love that blue on the Z. Too bad the seats didn't match that color. That lighter blue sticks out like a sore thumb, but it's what you like.

My car averaged barely 20 stock. Hr's aren't as good on gas as DEs. You have a bodykit that is probably raping your aero. 20 in big *** heavy rims and mods. How old r u btw?

 

dump the 20s and get some 18s... some idiot will trade you.

find a v2 or v3 front, decent skirts and keep the rest.

then drive like a normal human being and you'll be fine.

 

Hello and welcome. I love that color on the Z.

I do not like the body kit and wheels are rediculous. Like aforementioned, scrap the 20's for 18 or 19 inch wheels. Looks into lightweight wheels to drastically reduce the unsprung weight of the car. Enkei RPF1s are common, but are very light, great quality, and can be had for cheap. Further, look up diy guides for seafoaming the Z. Seafoam, change all the fluids to synthetics, clean throttle body and MAF, clean/re-oil intake filters, and constantly monitor and maintain proper tire pressure.

Also, you may want to think about getting a tune so the true potential of the the modifications can be realize. This is will likely increase power and gas mileage, but a quality tune is not cheap.

 

I like the color👍..How many miles on it? Be easy on the clutch and make sure u don't burn it up. No drifting and u should be ok.

 

If you're worried about fuel economy find a big rig and cruise behind him. Less drag=more MPG.

in addition to lgear's advice I say get rid of the v3 wing as well.
PM me, i "may" know someone interested in taking it off your hands.
kidding aside - congrats and treat it with respect.
the v3 wing is the only aftermarket bodykit part I like on the car.
you should try color match or paint the door handle black.

That kit actually looks great on the car, good job. I would definitely get rid of the wheels though. Don't get 18's, they would be too small for that kind of kit. I'm thinking some aggressive 19's would really set your car off. As for your fuel mileage, you bought a sports car dude, get used to it. However, you should be able to get at least 23 on the highway. Don't shift at 5k every time and you'll be ok. Also, a tune might not be a bad idea.

Nice vehicle for your first car. I bought a $300 2nd gen DSM with a hole the size of a CD on the block. Brought it home, swapped in a new engine and the exhaust (downpipe to catback) fell off. Week after that, the tranny went out. Month after that, ECM blew.

Moral of the story, be very happy with ANY MPG for your first vehicle.

50 MPG? You are out of your mind...

 

Say what you will but it's true.

Hugged the semi for a bit doing 65-70, reset the calculator and first number it hit was 50.

 

No ****...

The computer takes an average, so the number right after a reset is never completely accurate. If you are coasting down a hill and reset it, the first number will be extremely high as well, doesn't mean it's accurate.

 

That number is completely accurate. That is your base number at that point in time. All it's doing from there on is adding more calculations to the equation creating an average over a broader distance.


Here's a simple comparison,

A student has gotten the following grades on his tests: 87, 95, 76, and 88.

Does this mean that the 95 never existed because his mean(average) is 86.5?
