Hey guys... just a quick heads-up - if you are planning on coming to our event in April, go ahead and get your entry in as soon as you can - the event is filling up quickly. It's a short track, so we're limiting the student run groups to 22-23 cars max. Go ahead and use the member pricing using Triangle Z Club as your reference.

Snail mail entry and link to online entry can be found at www.timetrials.net

Thanks!!!

Can you drive this track without an instructor, if you have had prior track experience?

I really dislike the idea of in instructor on anything other than the sighting laps. I dont want to take the liability of having someone in my car, and from my experience, the instructor...75% of the time...just distracts me.

The very short answer is: not with our group.

The long answer is: It is extrememly rare that we'll let someone solo who has never done an event with us. If your previous experience meets our requirements, and you let us send an instructor out with you for a check ride, then maybe. Generally, it is up to your instructor whether or not to sign you off to solo or not. These are people who WANT to instruct you - thats why they come to our events, because they enjoy instructing. They aren't there instructing 'because they have to'. We don't invite those instructors back.

Our events are High Performance Driver Education events... with an emphasis on education. I want to be very clear on this point: This is NOT a lapping or open track event. You very well may not need an instructor, but in all honesty, because its OUR asses on the line regarding your safety and that of those around you, WE are the ones that will make that decision. If this is unacceptable to you, then I suggest some of the other organizations that run open track and lapping days, like Chin Motorsports (to name the 1st one that pops into my head).

Before I go any further, I'll ask you what your previous experience is, especially on this track.

As far as taking the liability of having someone in the car - you're the first person I've heard mention that. This is a controlled environment were the risks are minimized as much as possible for a high-speed event. Please go to www.timetrials.net and download our rules and regulations - you'll see that your safety (and your instructor's safety) is our #1 priority followed closely by making sure you have fun and learn.

I understand completely. It's your event so you can run it as you choose. I hope no offense was taken. I have done at least a dozen motorcycle track days on most of the West Coast tracks, and I am very familiar with the safety requirments, passing, flags etc.etc.

Believe me, I am not claiming to be an expert road racer or track expert. I am far from it. But I enjoy driving by myself, and I trust I now the limits of my car and skills in a controlled environment.

I DO want an instructor to take a few sighting laps and show me the lines since I have never driven at VIR, but after a couple sessions, I'd prefer to be turned loose if you feel I am driving within your safety scope.
