Default Moving to Miami.

I just got the word that I'm getting promoted at work and being transfered to south Miami. I've only been to Miami once and really have no idea were to start looking for a place to live. Any advice would be great. I'm looking for a two bedroom apartment in a decent neighborhood for <1400.

Where is the location you'll be working? Miami is very spread out and because of the rush hour traffic you'll want to live some what near the office unless you don't mind being stuck in traffic forever.

I work for The Cheesecake Factory and I'll be working at either the Dadeland Mall location or Coco walk.

There are some pretty nice aparments across the street at a building called Metropolis and downtown dadeland. The 2/2's probably rent for more than 1200 though. When are you coming to set yourself up? There is alot of affordable living less than 5 mins west from Cheesecake Factory. Hope your ready for nasty customers. lol. In Miami, almost everyone has an attitude.

Sweet, i work right by there.

As for the Metropolis, it's a nice building, however rent is not cheap.
A 2/2 you are looking at around $1600, about 1100 sq.ft.
I think you are better off renting somewhere not exactly next door to your job, and save some money.

Let me know if you need help finding a place.

Look into renting a single family house.
I rent a 3/2 with pool in a great area (Cooper City) for just a little more that $1400.

Depending on the shift he works that commute would be hell.

I would try to live as close to the job as possible, Miami traffic has gone to hell and just keeps getting worse.

I'll be working all shifts; (open)8-6, (mid)11-9, (close)4-2am. Mostly mid's and closes.

The commute is really what I'm concerned about. I really don't want to spend more than an hour getting to work.

A friend of mine recommended looking in the university of miami area. What do ya think? I've always thought that the UM area was a little ghetto.

You can commute for an hour even all the way in Palm Beach county but the problem is the uncertainty of the traffic in the tri county area, you never know what to expect, it can be a breeze of a trip or it can take 3 hours.

The area around UM can be very nice and expensive, you would have to be on the north/west side of US1 and preferably towards the west side of UM.

You have to really look as Miami is an interesting place, you can have multi million dollar homes on one street and ghetto on the next, it is not like most cities where you can see where the nice neighborhoods are, in Miami is more f knowing where the really nice ones are (too expensive) and the worse ones (you could die) the rest is just a big mix.

Good luck, I may seem pessimistic but I moved out of Miami to Palm Beach because I hated it down there.

I tend to agree. You can live somewhere marginally close like Miramar and save a lot of money and not be in the middle of the chaos down there.

On a side note, we do a meet near the Boca Cheesecake Factory every once in a while. Love that restaurant!

You can also rent in west kendall. It'll take you about 30 mins to commute but it won't take 1 1/2 Hrs, like if you lived in Miramar. There are alot of places in Miami. You need to come down and do some in person research.
