Mark your calendars for this event. Registration will open soon. For more information please visit the website below or you can e-mail information@highcountrychallenge.com.
Welcome to the 2nd Annual High Country Challenge!!!!
Scheduled for October 3rd, 2009
Full details: www.highcountrychallenge.com
What is this?
The High Country Challenge is a self-guided driving event through the heart of Americana. We provide the sponsor stops, you determine the route. An automotive adventure where you get to see beautiful sights, interesting locations, and great roads.
Where is it located?
The event this year will be centered in and around the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina.
Why should you participate?
Proceeds from the event are donated to a beneficiary each year. The NCNG Soldier and Airmen's Family Assistance Fund will once again be the recipient.
Who can play?
Anyone. We recognize one driver or one driver and one navigator as a team. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, scooters, bicycles are all welcome.
Cost?
$50 per vehicle; includes a light dinner at the last stop and all proceeds go to charity.
Prizes?
Grand Prize - All expenses paid (hotel room for one night and gas money for the day)
Additional prizes – Product and Service donations from Event and Route Sponsors
How does the event work?
The participants will visit as many of our route sponsor stops as they desire. At each stop, trip tickets are available that will be used to qualify for the drawings at the end of the event. The more locations you visit the more drawing entries you earn. Pretty simple. Beyond that....we're not going to tell you how to get to each location or when you have to be there. The number of route stops will be kept relatively low in order to provide you with the most flexibility to get out, relax and enjoy the countryside.

Also wanted throw a few more photos from last year's event out there for you to take a look at....

All but one of these cars look to be returning for this year's event along with some new ones. In fact, one of the cars already signed up for this year's event is an R33 Skyline.
I'd also like to throw out there that Supercar Sensation has sponsored our event this year. They've provided us with a gift certificate for one of their Test Programs, where you get to spend an hour with several of their cars. www.supercarsensation.com
We've also had Asphalt Ventures sign on as an event sponsor as well. They've donated a gift certificate good for $300 towards a track event. Such as the one they're putting on at VIR on November 30th. www.asphaltventures.com

Just a quick update on things....
-We added Discount Tire as a sponsor this morning.
-As of this morning, there are 13 cars registered including an R33 Skyline.
-We've nailed down all 4 of the regular route stops and we've found this year's mystery stop. The driving this year promises to be great!

Thanks, Jason.
Yeah....I was disappointed when I heard the Triangle show was the same date. We'll have to make an effort to coordinate better for next year. We were originally thinking another weekend....but App would have been having a home football game that weekend, thus getting anywhere near Boone would have been awful. As we continue the event, we're hoping that more people knowing about it will help us avoid conflicts. But we're definitely making it a point to get our date decided on much earlier next year so we can start working with the other area car clubs because we definitely want to bring in more partner groups next year.

I know exactly what you are saying, for us to have local attendance we basically have to avoid State, Carolina and ECU home games, plus the state fair. That's why we are a month early this year.
Let's definitely keep in touch, I'll PM you my info. Our prez, Kevin Brown did the event last year (yellow 78 convertible) and was disappointed in the conflicting date too. I know you will have support from Triangle Z next year. I actually grew up in the area you tour !

For those of you that aren't going out for the Triangle Z Club's show, please consider coming out to the High Country Challenge. We already have 31 cars registered...so it looks like it's going to be a pretty good sized crowd for only our second year doing this event. The Nissan contingent is by far the largest...but it needs to be bigger!

Jason, Thanks a lot. From the photos it looks like you had a good turnout up that way. Can't wait to be working with you guys next year for the HCC.
As for this year's event...we had 30 cars run in the event this year from all across the spectrum of cars (not bad for a 2nd year event). We had a couple stars of the day....though I think the most talked about car was the 06 Dodge Viper that came out to play. The owners told me they'd be back next year and were going to bring some more with them! Then of course we had the R33 Skyline GT-T along with an 09 GTR. Perhaps my second favorite car that was there was a very rare Solstice GXP Coupe. I think they made fewer of these than they did the GTR's first production run....and to be honest, this is the only one I've seen outside of a picture. Great looking car. We even managed to lure out an Elise and 3 Corvette Z06's (including a brand new C6 model).
Of course the Nissan contingent carried the day with the largest number of cars and the Carolina Z Club carried the Club Participation Award once again. Hopefully someone will give them a run for their money next year...*cough* TZC *cough*..as they go for a 3peat. lol
I took about 100 or so shots, but haven't had a chance to get through them yet. Hopefully tomorrow night after work (tonight is a CZC meet).
We haven't gotten everything totaled up yet in terms of our donation (have a couple bills to pay and some math to do), but I'm really hoping it will be a good one.
Anyway...stay tuned for pictures!
