Tag Laws in South Carolina. Need help!
I just bought a car from a private seller in GA and the law here is we are allowed to drive around with no tag for 30 days from the day of sale. I am traveling to south carolina in this vehicle and I'm worried that I'll get pulled over for no tag. I went to the DMV website for south carolina and they said we are required to have a temporary tag or license plate. Just my luck I am driving there tomorrow (labor day) so I doubt the DMV will be open so I can obtain a temporary tag. Any insight?

I've heard of that before. I'm from NC, and went with a friend to buy a car in GA. We drove it back, that weekend. Were fine though, when we showed the paperwork, and explained everything.
Keep your paperwork in the car... If you get pulled over, explain the situation, just as you did here, and you should be ok. The officer may give you a "fix-it" ticket, so you have to get temp tags when the DMV opens. You should be fine though.

I've bought several cars in SC now, all I had on the cars were these dealer "plates" but really they just said the dealers name and the date I purchased the car I think. I got pulled over 4 days after buying one of them(the Z) and I just had to provide the bill of sale. I think youll be fine without anything though, just have that bill of sale showing that it was recently purchased and purchased by you. Hope that helps.

That sucks man, the cop was cool with me about it all. However I'm in the military, it was my birthday and happened to be Memorial Day. Maybe he cut me a break by just giving me the speeding ticket?
But now that I think about there was no way I could have had plates(dealership processed everything for me and I had to wait a month to get the plate in the mail. So are you sure you didnt get ticketed for having the other persons expired tags still on the car(I saw your post in OT)?
