Per the SCCA website:
TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 24, 2005) – Even though the program has been in existence for only a short while, Sports Car Club of America Club Racing officials have announced that the Time Trials program is going back to its roots for the “Last Hurrah at Second Creek Raceway,” the first National-level Time Trials event in SCCA history.
While the Oct. 15-16 Colorado event marks the beginning of a new era in SCCA Club Racing, it will also signal the end of another as the Time Trials National will be the last timed competition event at Second Creek, which is scheduled to close permanently at the end of October.
The Second Creek event has been dubbed the first “National” because it will be the first Time Trials event run completely under the SCCA Club Racing General Rules Competition (GCR) and Solo Rules handbooks. Previously, rules had been left to general interpretation at regional events.
“Since we first unveiled the updated Time Trials program with three Club Trial events in 2004, things have just exploded,” SCCA Club Racing Competition Manager Bryan Cohn said. “By the conclusion of the program’s first season, we will have run 20 Club Trial events nationwide and 64 Time Trials events overall.
“As far as I know, this is the only entry level road course program with a national level event. We’re taking these steps because we want to continue to cultivate what we believe is a substantial, grassroots road racing program.”
Club Trials is the second step of the four-step Time Trials program and is centered on driver instruction while introducing a race-against-time element. Both SCCA and non-SCCA members are allowed to participate in street and race-prepared cars in Club Trials.
In the upper levels of the Time Trials program (Track Trials and Hill Climbs), only SCCA competition-licensed members are allowed to participate, and only in Club Racing or Solo-prepared vehicles. Like Club Trials, competition is time-based as drivers navigate a course in as little time as possible with the lowest time determining the winner.
SCCA Colorado Region Club Trials Steward Josh Hadler has been working with the program since its inception (also at Second Creek) and said it was time for a national-level event to happen.
“We have been looking for a way to try and get some form of National event for Time Trials drivers,” Hadler said. “After much discussion and planning, we have officially put the wheels in motion.”
All Regional and National Solo and Club Racing classes are encouraged to enter soon as each day’s activities will be limited to 60 participants. Competitors can register online at www.sccatimetrials.org by clicking on the “Registration” link.
Visit www.sccatimetrials.org or www.scca.com for more information including classifications and schedules.
So, it looks like Colorado will play host to the first Time Trial National Championship in 2005. I'm considering entry- anybody else interested?
We could use the September 10th ZCCC track day as a warm up. Who is going to that event?

Bone stock cars allowed? No roll bars or anything? Last I heard, arm restraints were needed and a timing device. If that's all, and not too expensive, then I'll show up and happily embarrass myself at 2nd creek's last hurrah.

Will- Do you still have the Z? If so, you'll need a SA90 helmet, arm restraints and a AMB transponder (also available by rent). Not sure if you'll need to be a SCCA member or not, but let us know if you're interested and I'll check it out...

I'm sure Morten's Motorsports and many other local speed shops will carry arm restraints. I'd also check the internet sites like Racer Wholesale for better pricing, though. You have enough time to check it out!
Any chance we'll see you at SCR for the ZCCC day in a couple weeks?

Thanks for the information David, I'll call Morten's and check out the pricing. I don't think I'll be able to keep the Z for very much longer, so I have my reservations on spending money on equipment I might not use again. On the other hand, selling makes me want to use this car for as much as possible while I have it...

Anyone else going to compete at 2nd Creek, or plan on going to watch? Just curious how lonely I'll be
There's an RX-8 in B stock running 1'20" laps on V710's and right now I'm his only competition. I run about 1'24"- 25" on my stock 17" R040's, and am wondering if I can really shave 5 sec off with just tires. He was just out in Ohio competing in the Nationals for auto-x and I imagine is running adjustable dampers and front roll bar, along with lighter wheels and those V710's. Should be a good race
BTW, it appears that on Sat. the track is run backwards! That's new to me. Hope to see some of you guys come out!

(desperately debating the perils of credit card debt vs. the glory of winning with new wheels and dampers on a car he is sure to sell)

I might be there to watch, but definitely not to compete.
And I'm no expert on auto-x classing, but I don't think you can have adjustable dampers in BS, can you? That RX-8 might end up in a higher classing, leaving you running against nobody (unless others sign up.) In which case, it might be a bit of a waste to buy r-comps. But like I said, I'm no expert on auto-x mods and classing.
SCR counter-clockwise is a lot of fun, in my opinion. All those places where you go uphill and gain grip during turns when you're going clockwise, you find yourself going downhill and losing grip when going the other way...definitely makes for more of a roller-coaster, struggling-for-traction experience.
Good luck, and I'll try to make it out there at least one day to watch and cheer you on.

He's cool with adjustable dampers, like Koni yellows, but you can't change the springs or alter factory alignment. Front bar can be changed, but not the rear. That's about it aside from aftermarket wheels, as long as they are the same dimensions as stock. As for r-comps, I am thinking i might just slap on some cheapo, closeout aquatread tires and pray for flooding rains to neutralize the V710's he has on.
Prolly not gonna be that lucky though.
I'll be glad to see you come out though Gary, should be a great show looking at the entry list.
