Default YES! Coming home to CO!

I'm so excited, I finally get to come home to CO for good in three weeks. Excited about the oppertunities to drive my Z with the rest of you guys. Although I've meet some really good people and made some good friends in CA because of the Z, I can't wait to be home again!

However, I'm not looking forward to driving my Z through the snowy mountains. I most likely will have to take the southern route to Arizona and avoid all the snow up there.

+1. Watch it if you come from the south over Raton Pass (on I-25 near the CO-NM border). That can be as wicked as it gets and not something you want to try with a Z on summer tires!

Thanks guys. Your warm welcome is one more reason why I love CO so much!

Robert K: I'll still be in CA on that date but I'll definately try to make future events. I also drive to Pueblo alot, maybe one of these days we can meet up.

Resolute: I always figure you were older (40s) untill I meet you. I'm very impress with your knowledge of the motoring world. Wish I knew just half of what you know. When's the baby due?

dkmura: I do have winter tires and not too worry if its a little snow. I just don't want to go up/down hills on icy conditions. I've never taken the southern route before, any suggestions? Rumors has it that there's a mean speed trap somewhere in AZ. Thanks in advance.

Now that's a shame because by the time you come here, I'll be going home to Texas. =(

Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad to have met you at Gary's and look forward to hanging out with you at future events. The baby is coming March 20th, thanks for asking.
As to the southern route, the stretch from Flagstaff to the NM border is bleak and prone for AZ state patrol. The road has some hills to it, and after you crest, there's usually a cop waiting off to the side catching people. it's pretty wicked cause most detectors won't pick it up in time. The stretch is boring, but the road from Las Vegas NM to Raton really sucks. Watch out for cops after you pass Las Vegas, and slow down going through Wagon Mound, it's 65 there and not marked AT ALL, (sign is there but all shot up last time I went through), state patrol has nailed me four times along that stretch of barren wasteland. Trinidad/Raton pass can be a real PITA if it's snowy, and they usually close the pass if it's bad. There are some good steep grades to go up and down in that pass, but the rest of your trip will be relatively flat. there is one good valley to go down and up near Colorado City, but it's usually plowed if there's snow. All in all, I still think it's the safest, ugliest route to take. Hope this helps,
Will

Thats too bad... But diffently hit me up when you are down south. Although I won't be here much of the Spring or summer. I'll be deployed those months.

I don't mind a bit, as long as I know I'm doing the right thing.

I'm going to tow my Z (u-haul trailer) to CO. I'm planning on taking I-40 to I-25 to bypass the mountains. Has anyone driven this route and know of the approximately time it takes?

If the roads are not icy I'll take I-15 to I-70.
