Got my recall letter last week, sux....I just got my car bck from 5 weeks in the body shop! Someone said it's "voluntary"? I thought that it was leaking gas from the inlet down, possible fire hazzard? I read that they have to remove the whole
rear end, suspension and of course the tank. I also deal with Peak on Wadsworth. They, I find aren't great but it's the lesser of multiple evils I guess. 3/4 of my car has been repainted. I would die if something happened. Does anyone have sideskirts? How does this work with a entire car lift?

Not that I'm looking for problems with my car but..... I don't think I have any tranny problems (yet) But soooo many people do have problems and I would like to catch it if it exists BEFORE warranty is up. So grinding, hard time getting into gear is what i am looking for? Anything else? at what mileage do people start noticing it? I have 20K...

Well I took my car in on Friday and got it back on Saturday. I don't think the service took that long, it was just the wait. There were about four 350z's on the lifts and when I picked it up there were another three. They weren't able to reproduce my transmission grinding and told me that my fuel filling problem is may be fixed with the Fuel Hose recall. I even brought in the print out of the TBS for the shutter valve. Oh well.

While I was there I took a long look at the 06 Frontiers. I even took it for a test drive. I actually considered trading in, but I didn't. I may think about it later though.

hr2burn: my grinding only occurs when my engine is cold. It's downshifting from 5th to 6th. It started occurring pretty regular around 38K mile. Ever once in a while I'll get a grind going into second. Every time I talk to the Service reps about it, they look like they never heard about this problem ever occurring.

I had mine done at Boulder Nissan last week. It took longer then they said it would, but they did get it done without damaging anything else......

Not to sound like a broken record or anything, but you should consider talking to Jay in Tynan's service department about the tranny. They're aware of this issue, and have replaced several trannies (including mine.)

Not to bash Jay Gary, but I specifically told him about my most recent tranny problems and he told me he never hears about tranny probs. Told me that they couldn't find any problems, but they would do a tranny flush that I had to pay forand it might make it better. So I did that myself with my friend Tobi and the problem is still there. Go figure..............maybe it's in the transmission?

I just think Nissan has these dealers hands tied...........but what do I know, I'm just a hack treadmill reapir guy.

Mudd... you 'hack treadmill guys' always get the bis from them Nissan service reps, didn't you know?

Thing is, this tranny prob has been very well documented, with many tranny updates and redesigns since the first edition. I talked with parts about the part number of mine when it was ordered, and found out the real story behind the revisions.

Perhaps the dealers hands are tied up, and they foot the bill for replacements, but it would be good to know for sure from someone in the bis... before they start giving the bis to me!!!

May 13th!!!

Wow, sorry to hear that Brian. Typically, talking to Jay is all it takes to get something done.

Aren't you already on your second tranny? Are you in the process of needing a third one?

First off, most of the grinding problems applies to the 2003-2004.5 models. At first it only grinds at certain times except for when its in the dealers hand. Give it a few months + (depending on your driving style and mileage) it will occure more often, then it will grind on every shift.

2nd --> 3rd, and 5th -->6th are the most common gears to grind.

I first noticed my "grinds" early on when the problem wasn't really public yet and it took the car almost a year before it became a "noticable" problem for the dealers to duplicate. And mine was a daily driver at the time.

Good luck

May 13th!

That is correct. The first one was done around 5000 miles. Now I am just over 20000 and this time it's hard to go into 2nd and 3rd. Hasn't started grinding yet, but it will. It's been hard to shift since last fall. Especially when cold, it hardly wants to go into 2nd.
I even dropped it off at Tynans the night before, so that way the next morning when they road test it, the tranny would be cold. You all know of course what there results were of driving it......"no problem found Mr. Mudd".

This also reminds me of the time when I first complained of the first tranny grinding. I drove with the drivability tech, and it was grinding on all 2nd gear shifts on the road test. To quote him " Seems normal to me, maybe you should give this little noise a week to see if it goes away, if it doesn't bring it back in for us to look at". Of course I was back the next afternoon. This is why I won't go to John Elway Nissan for service.

I think with the racing season starting up I am sure it will start to grind, just like before. It will start grinding when I need it most in the summer, not during the winter when it sits parked most of the time.

Wasn't this supposed to be about gas line issues?......LOL

So is there anything specail I should tell them about the tranny when they are looking at it. IE: That Nissan already know about a tranny problem.
