First Encounter with a GT-500
So tonight was my dad's office party and i was bartending and talking to one of his female employees. When she decides to leave she pulls out her keys and has a mustang logo on her keychain.
our conversation was as follows:
do you drive a new model mustang?
yes
Is it a GT or a v6?
GT.... 500
(drooling)
we then went out and she showed me the car and took me for a ride. Those things are amazing and can really put you in the back of your seat.... i've ridden in a Z many times before and i thought that it was pretty damn fast.... But this thing made it feel like a slug.
Moral of the story: If your dad has an office party and wants you to work at it: don't bartend, do valet parking instead.
sorry if i wasted your time but i'm just really excited and wanted to talk about it haha.

(The girl not the car)She's like a 40 year old tomboy.... but she's the most interesting person to talk to because she used to race boats and jet skis. God knows how she ended up as an accountant.....

We already know the car is.

I think Ford did a nice job on the new Mustang. They picked some of the best styling cues off the older models and combined them into a beautiful new car. Kinda like what Nissan did with the Z!
But I've checked out the interiors and to say it was disappointing would be an understatement. Ford elected to go retro with the instrumentation and steering wheel and it just doesn't work. The plastics and dash layout make the Z's look like a million bucks IMO.
Granted, I've never been in a GT500 (and won't be going there anytime in the future), but for $45K +, I'd be spending my $$ elsewhere. HP is important, but does that thing really weigh over 4000#!?

R&T: Some feel the car should have an independent rear suspension, like the previous-generation Mustang Cobra — what do you think?
Shelby: That's bull. We proved a long time ago that for ordinary driving and going around a skidpad with a straight rear axle, you can do it as well as you can with an independent rear. It takes a lot of engineering, weight and cost to do an independent suspension. By not doing it, we took $5000 out of the car.

LAME! Sure for "normal" driving and skidpad it does the same, but if you want real handling, a solid rear axel is NOT that way to go.... I will never own any sports car with a solid rear axel unless all I want to do is drag race.... aka, i'll never own one..

I know everything is run by the "invesible hand" of ecomomics for profit but I take it that the new designers (or project manager) can't or don't have the ***** to come up with a new awestrucking design.
Also, how many times can you retro desgin a car? I assume only once. I feel like they are trying to servive on past success rather than try to build new ones.
Sure the new mustang looks nice and retro but I would love to see new blood roaming around the street.

On the contrary, all the 'retro' designs (thnk Z, Mustang, Camaro, Mini, etc. etc.) are popular because they provide some frame of reference for potential customers to start looking. But underneath the styling cues, the car has to perform with the best 'new blood' out there.
It's why when the next Z model comes out it'll also employ 'Z-DNA' in a retro design. It'll have some cues that will draw 240-280-300-350Z crowd out, but it'll most likely be lighter, with more power and performance on tap. Price points shouldn't change that significantly, either. Luckily for us, 'Z-DNA' has always meant "bigger bang for the buck"!
