What's the deal wth the coating? So what's your guess on being back on the road?

Yea they are pretty neat, I am sending the pistons off to Swain Tech to get Gold Coat on the domes and PC-9 on the skirts. The CT-1 coating on the bearings is a anti friction coating, it will reduce bearing and crankshaft temps which will increase durability. The coating will also reduce friction enough to make the motor a bit more powerful.

As for the pistons here is some info from Swain's site:
http://www.swaintech.com/store.asp?pid=10321

The piston coatings are as follows:
Domes (Gold Coat):
As the use of Nitrous, Turbo Chargers and Super Chargers have become common place; Swain Tech developed GoldCoat™ Ceramic Armor™ to protect piston tops in these demanding motors. GoldCoat™ offers the same benefits of TBC™, but adds an extra layer of extra high temperature ceramic to provide even more protection at higher temperatures. GoldCoat™ deals with the heat spikes and thermal shock of boosted motors better than any other piston coating.

Skirts (PC-9):
PC-9™ Solid Film Lubricant:
PC-9™ is Swain Tech’s latest generation of piston skirt coating. PC-9™ has the same low friction properties of Poly Moly™, but PC-9™ is even tougher.

PC-9™ is commonly used to salvage a motor that has excessive piston to wall clearance. Vintage motors and other applications with hard to find pistons can
have up to .004” of PC-9™ added to the diameter of a piston to tighten piston to
wall clearance.

Well it has been a long time since the last update. Things have been going much slower than I had hoped but I do have some updates. I got the block back from the machine shop about 2 weeks ago, and started into it. I checked all the machine work and it was spot on then I checked all my bearing tolerances and they were spot on finally I gapped my rings.

It was right about when I started putting the first piston in that I realized I was not happy with how smooth that was going. So....I called down to the shop I do some work at and talked to Dave Jones. Dave is a former head mechanic for a few Porsche Cup Car teams and for the Porsche program for 3R Racing. He has built countless race motors and I figured having him assy. the motor is worth the few cases of beer it will cost me.

Yesterday was a good day for the turbo setup too!

Well it has been awile since my last update, but here is where we sit as of right now at 7:15 on Monday night. I had taken essentially a month off building this thing due to being really busy. I am now back at it and moving fast, I got the long block assy. this week and it is ready to drop in once I fix a spot in the engine bay that had developed a bit of rust and got promptly cut out.

Gorgeous. I like how you painted your iron block an aluminum color Really, it does look sharp. Can't wait to see this at the track.

Then after I drop it in, this is the first thing on my list......
