No emmissions up in Weld county Mudd, you live just a bit too far south. Your welcome to use my address, all you need to do is show the DMV folks something (any piece of mail) that documents that you live in Weld. You could buy a subscription to playboy and have it sent to my place.

Yea, i need to know how to pass too, so i can do what i need when i put in my twin turbo kit. The SEL doesn't fail you anymore! I think the best thing to do is (maybe not the cheapest choice) Is get a different map on the UTec to be emissions friendly and put stock cats back on. I know yours are welded on Mudd but since you live in adams, you might have to get a different exhaust to make it pass emissions. To get it to pass as is, try that fuel additive that helps cars pass emissions. But it looks like you need some cats.

I paid extra to get the kit with cats, I hope this has some value beyond visual inspection. In the mean time I guess I'll start looking for an address I can use that is in an non-emission county.

Just get high flow cats, and you will pass with a turbo kit. My old Z32, with bigger injectors, pumped up boost (15 psi), 13 years old, still passed California emissions, because it had cats.

I know I am harping on this, but really, having working cats is a good thing, for multiple reasons.

As for the SES light, hmm, I didn't know that. Cali emissions will fail you in a heartbeat if you have a SES, or if you have recently reset your ECU. I think you actually have to drive like 100 miles before it will pass.

Some answers to some of the questions posed here.

You can still pass with an SES light on. Since the light can mean so many different things they can't fail you based solely on the SES light. This is according to the pamphlet they gave me when I failed the test.

They passed me on the visual inspection of the cats...........I quote the idiot who was doing it "Man your $hit is looooooking goooooood holmes" so if you get the same clown I had you will pass the visual. Keep in mind I have no cats.

Sean...........you have to get the test every 2 years after you first become eligible. This is whats happening to me right now.

Dave...........I have the stock cats in my basement, not on the car.

Fernell, if it were that easy I would just do it but something tells me they will want a water bill or tax bill or something more then just a magazine subscription.

I am way short on time for the next week but must get this done by next Friday. I think what I am going to do is pay someone to remove the aftermarket stuff, install the stock stuff, get tested, then return and have thern put back on the aftermarket stuff. Its about my only choice. I have too much to do at work, plus an upcoming drive and also my wifes birthday and I can't forget that.

Ok, cool. I wasn't sure what you meant by the stocks. Anyways, yes, you are so class emissions wise, you will pass no problem with cats on. Expensive to swutch everything out, or time consuming, either one, but if thats what you have to do...

Good luck!

CARB legality has no bearing in CO, your best bet is to put the cats on for a bit and to get it retested. Make sure that your off boost tuning is good and that it is not backfiring when you go closed throttle. Another option is to restrict the amount of air coming in the motor. I know that some guys have put a restrictor in the intake or put a sweater over the air filter and that helped.

For your next one you have a few options, do that again. Or register the car at Kevins house but put the mailing address to your home or work. That way you will get all mail about the car but never have to do emissions. Or you can put your plates on a NA Z and drive through the rapid screen vans around town and pass that way so you dont have to go.

Can you actually pass emissions this way? Cuz if you do that and take it to the actual emissions place I know they check the VIN number....

Defiantely try putting the cats back in. The guy who's G i've been building just passed emissions with flying colors. He has a 03 coupe with a vortech with the 2.8 pulley, 380 injectors, walbro intank and stillen exhaust. He was right dead on with where he needed to be

Kevin, tell me your 2 cents. I can't get an address is Park County like you are lucky enough to have, so I am more then likely going to have to make changes to get it to pass.

Mudd
Brian, correct sir, the test pipes are welded to the Stillen true duels.
Droping the exhaust isn't too bad, I have all my stock stuff (full exhaust) here at the house, come up we''ll put it on, run test, replace with the Stillen.
F-detuneing!!! Jason, will it have to be detune'ed to pass?

Catt delete will fail because of tail pipe emissions or fail the visual inspection?

Yeah as soon as they look under the car and see no cats you'll fail. With the proper tune and stock cats you should pass the scan just fine. And to for some strange reason my buddies car lost just under 2 pounds of boost by removing the cats.

We took a Z that we put a Turbonetics s/t kit on with a cat and it did not pass. We tried a number of thing before we could get it to pass, But i dont think that by putting the cats on will make the car pass, but i could be wrong. I might be worth a try. Eric
