Default NASA Event, Pueblo, 10-11 November

NASA Rocky Mountain will be having their final event this season, at Pueblo Motor Sports Park, in Pueblo, CO, on 10-11 November.

Check here and here for event details and registration.

Again, like I and others have said, even if you have ZERO track experience, NASA has run groups for you, with in car instruction. And if you have previous track experience, you can always contact Dave Balingit, the NASA RM regional director and ask him what class you should fall in. All you need is a car in good working order, a helmet, and a full tank of gas! There is a really good group of people with NASA, and as this event is the last of the season (weather permitting, of course), Dave B is trying to get this one to be a great time, more so than normal.

Looking forward to seeing as many as possible of the Z crowd out there!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Dave

Even though I cannot make it that weekend, I want to add my positive comments on NASA. They do a good job of running the event and offering instruction in graduated steps. From HPDE 1-4, they emphasize consistency, safety and communication to participants and set the stage to progress from there. Anyone who has been to the Nissan Sport safety class or Z track days in the past will feel comfortable with the NASA format.

For those who've wanted to get certified to run at PMP, NASA is one way to get started. Since we couldn't get enough participants to hold our own event last month, this may be the best alternative. You'll need to participate in a couple of NASA events and get HPDE 4 certified.

It's SERIOUS FUN and PMP is a great layout with a combination of fast and slow turns. You'll learn more in one day about your Z and how to operate it than you will believe!

Thanks, David, for the comments! Like he says, NASA is a great experience all around. Good people, good fun, and good learning.

HPDE 3 certification will work for open track days at PMP, as well as HPDE 4.

If anyone is interested in joing me, since this is the last NASA event of the season, I will almost definitely be heading down on Friday, Nov 9th for the open track day in order to get in some more track time.

Here's another good word for NASA - one of the best track-day organizations out there. Thanks to Dave P for spreading the word about this event - anybody who comes out for this weekend will NOT be disappointed.

I'll definitely be down there for the weekend, and I hope to be able to make the open day on the ninth, but that'll be down to work scheduling and whether or not I think the car can take 3 straight days on track. Should be fun, though!

DAVE, I have zero experience, but I think I am going to try this one. I have one question, my son is 20 years old, can him and I get instruction in one day?

If you have two cars. Otherwise, no. This is because with no experience, you will both be in HPDE group 1. All the runs are at the same time.

Quick overview: you will get 4 20 minute track sessions each day. Each session is followed by whats called a download, where you and the instructors discuss what happened on the track during that session. In addition, with HPDE 1 and 2, you will get ample classroom time during the day. Finally, with HPDE 1, you will have an instructor in the car with you for each run, showing you where the 'line' in, and how to drive the line.

Make sure you sign up both for NASA membership ($40), and for the particular event (Pueblo) on the links in my first posting above.

If you are bringing two cars, then both you and your son can sign up, otherwise, only one person can sign up. However, I doubt the instructors would have any problem letting your son sit in on the classes. But, they would not let him ride in the car, since no passengers are allowed in groups 1 and 2.

Finally, you will need a suitable helmet with a SNELL 2000 rating or greater.

If you've got any other questions, let me know!

I will make it depending on the weather forecast. I will have to drive through Vail pass in November. As long as there isn't snow, I can make it.

So, here is the list as follows:

Sat/Sun NASA

1. Dave 90TT
2. GaryM05
3. tsabrale (weather, which is looking good right now!!!)
4. 350ZMPH

Open track Day Friday 9 November

1. Dave 90TT
2. GaryM05 (maybe)

Did I miss anyone? Anyone else interested?

I'm staying at the Wingate Inn Friday and Saturday nights, definitely plan on going out for pizza or something with any fellow Z'er's.

Hopefully there will be some more there!

I'll be out of town this weekend, but want to send along my best wishes to all the G/Z pilots going to this event. Our own GaryM05 will be seeking to wrap-up the 2007 NASA Rocky Mountain TTC points title. He's been a consistent front runner all season and I look for that pattern to continue!

Weather forecast looks promising, so everybody have a great time and post your comments & pics afterwards.

I know you have a prior engagement, David, but we'll miss you none-the-less!

Thanks for the good wishes.

I won't be able to make Friday, unfortunately, and I won't be running Sunday either, so it will be a short, one-day weekend at the track for me.

Thanks for the encouragement, dkmura - I'll likely be running on street tires, but hopefully I'll be able to get enough points on Saturday to remain a contender in the TTC points race.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone down there. Like Dave90TT, I'll be staying at the Wingate, and it would be nice to get together for dinner with any other folks that are down there (although the wife and I haven't finalized our travel plans yet to know if we can get there in time for dinner on Friday).

Heh!

No, I don't have a TT license yet, and I'm not sure I would run faster laps than Gary, even with the turbos....it's the driver skills that count (as you know) and he has much better skills than I!

No TT? Was it Group 4 you qualified for then?

They say your memory is the second thing to go... I forget the first.

No, I was going to do my HPDE 4 check at Sandia, but Sandi was cancelled. Probably this weekend, though.
