How bad is the traffic for a 6spd there? I might be in Phoenix in a few months for a job transfer and where I'm from there is never any traffic to worry about. Thanks for the info.

I moved to AZ a year ago from NY and I'm not going to lie traffic during rush hour is pretty bad on the major highways.
It will really just depend on what side of town you are going to be on, what time you go to work, and how far you have to drive. Example: If you work 9-5 and have to drive 20 miles from Mesa to Tempe, it will take you 40 minutes or so.
*But if you are like some people here in Phx, who read papers, smoking, do their hair and makeup, aiming/texting friends, *****-slap their fussing kids, or watch tv WHILE driving, maybe AT is the way to go.
BTW Texting while driving in the CITY of Phoenix is now illegal.
I drive a 6spd in traffic -- about 1 hour each way, 5 days/week. But then again, I've driven a 5spd for the last 10 years, so I'm used to it. If you already enjoy driving a 5/6spd, you should be fine.
I don't know about NY, but PHX traffic is definately better than LA or Houston!
the only major traffic is on the 17,10(between 101/17) and some of the 202..
I know it will take a while with all the red lights, but if I want to avoid actual bumper to bumper creeping forward a few feet at a time, is it generally possible to just commute over surface streets and avoid the 10 foot at a time creeping? I have an RSX S now and a few times in Philadelphia gridlock I was in a situation where a cannot fully release the clutch smoothly in less than a car length and if I wait 2 or 3 car lengths, idiots cut in front of me or beep. I'd rather get a 100 ft gap and creep constantly forward in 1st gear than ride out the clutch every 30 seconds for 45 minutes. The auto-driving people simply take their foot off the brake pedal and coast and they have no respect for those of us with manual transmissions. Then there are the people who sit 10 inches off your bumper at a red light on a hill in the rain or snow. It's so fun to drive a car like the RSX or Z when you can properly rev it through the gears, but the prospect of the Philadelphia situation on a regular basis really takes the fun out of the idea of getting a Z or keeping my RSX. If Nissan ports their DSG out of the GT-R into the 2009 Z, I may have a perfect car for the commute and the open road. I know I was long winded, but to summarize: Are surface street commutes from say Surprise, Scottsdale or Mesa to downtown Phoenix viable? and Are the highway drivers #$$!#^! like they are in Philly? Thanks!
I would suggest, plan your route to your commute, and check into the camera systems that you can find online, or tune into the Phoenix news cast or radio stations by any relatives or friends you have by entertaining them a Slingbox,
i drive over an hour each way.. kinda of a pain in the *** but i prefer it to a/t any day... i had to deal with vegas traffic a few times and that was horrible, same with LA..
arizona traffic isnt that bad..but what makes a even more worse is all these dumbass ****** dont know how to drive..theyre either retarded, calling someone, or txting
