Default Pueblo Instruction Day in 2008?

David M (and others)

Is there an interest in doing a Pueblo instruction day in 2008? Reason I ask is that PMP is forming their 2008 schedule, and if we want a weekend day, now is the time to reserve one.

Based on the rental price, we would probably need at least 10 folks, and even that might be too few. Plus, we need David M to agree to instruct.

For those who haven't done road course driving, it is the best thing since sliced bread, and probably the second most fun I have ever had in a car (the most fun involves another person...)

Any interest?

Dave

Update:

Date is February 2nd (3rd as a backup). Cost is going to be around $150 or so, maybe a bit higher, depending on the numbers.

Current list is:

1. Dave90TT
2. dkmura
3. Spivey
4. funkymonkey1111
5. tsabrale
6. youngZ33
7. matt jonez
8. dave90TT's friend in the 'vette
9. Driftin350Z
10. bamyi

Syllabus and course information are located in this thread Also includes payment instructions.

I'd be happy to set up another PMP track day, but have to mention that our chance of getting a weekend date are slim and none. PMP seems to have a "informal" policy of reserving weekends to large clubs. Believe me, I've tried!

The next best plan would be to shoot for a Friday and yes, we'll need at least ten participants to make this work. My question is how many novices will sign up or whether people want to try to evolve the HPDC into more of an novice/intermediate program and format?

We tried utilizing the Nissan Sport HPDC format at the California Speedway two weeks ago. With 40 students over two days, the first Nissan Performance Festival was a unqualified success! We did have novice and intermediate drivers sharing the track (and accompanying problems with the intermediate guys not following the passing rules), so I'd want to put a tighter rein on that.

In any case, count me in on this and let me communicate with PMP on possible 2008 dates.

David

I think the key here is doing our best to get a weekend; I think a weekday is enough of a detriment to the limited number of possible attendees here that we would not get enough, like last time. Maybe with enough advance notice, PMP would be willing to rent an exclusive on one day of the weekend. Then again, maybe I am wrong. If so, Fridays are certainly better than midweek.

Personally, I would love an intermediate drivers type of day, but with respect to the sport as a whole, a novice day gets us more people qualified for track days, and opens the door for more people to get involved in this sport. Either way, I am up for it, whether as an observer, participant, assitant, or general bum.

Thanks for getting this thread started. I've got an e-mail into PMP and will post here when I get a reply.

Here's the latest response from the PMP track manager:

"I'm sorry we have no weekend dates available in 2008. As a matter of fact there are only 3 or dates available in 2008 during the week for an exclusive. The cost for an exclusive day in 2008 is $1,500.00 + $100.00 due for every car over the 15th car attending."

I've sent another e-mail back, asking for details on the "three or so" dates available. THIS is why we need another track (or two) in the front range area! I'll post our admitedly slim options when I hear back.

Wow! I hope this happens. I, however, will most likely not be attending. With being in Kuwait and moving to Texas this summer I won't have the time off to attend. However, I wish the best for this event, more Z/G HPDE days and, more attendies. Sadly I don't see more Z/G owners attending. Some day people will relize you can have all the horsepower and still be slow due to lack of driving skills.

Wow, looking at their posted schedule, it didn't look like they were that booked.

Oh well, maybe we could make one of those days work.

Perhaps I've misunderstood the rental fees in the past, but it appears that PMI has raised their track rental rate by 50%. Am I wrong about this?

Joel- They changed the way they charge for track rental and the overall cost (depending on the # of cars) has usually gone up by 50%. I'd suggest that for our 2008 track day to get no less than 10, or more than 15 cars to make this cost-effective for everyone. You might recall that I had to cancel the last HPDC when we ended up with only 6-7 confirmed entries.

I'm in, schedule permitting. The sooner we can get a date locked up, the sooner I can confirm.

I drove my Z two weeks ago and had a half inch of snow/ice on my driveway when I got home that night. It took 6 tries to get her up my driveway and into the garage -- even after putting down a ton o' salt after the first try.

I'm trying to be patient, but I feel like a twitchy crack addict goin through DTs.

I sure am looking forward to the spring!

There's not any "prime time" PMP dates left for 2008, unless we want to wait until fall. Our best bets are to shoot for a weekend date in late Jan-Feb and hope for good weather. Yes, yes, I know that the weather can be terrible at that time of year, but we've also done track dates in the past and had great weather for them at that time of year.

So the question is: which weekend in that timeframe do we shoot for? I'd vote for Saturday Feb. 2nd, with Sunday as the backup. If that doesn't work, make a suggestion. Post here if you're interested and I'll get the reservation going!

I'm in. I can make it on any Fri, Sat, Sun that you can schedule us for. I have yet to go to PMI since they required the safety class, so I'll need to go through the drill.

Looks like I'll have to get my Z back together a little faster than I planned.
