Well done deal... Just enrolled to UTI Houston. Hopefully, which I doubt I won't, I'll be accepted. Taking the Automotive Technology course with Nissan elective. Start date Sept 15, grad date Nov 13, 09. Total course is 60 weeks. I'm really excited about this. After almost 15 years in the fire service I'm ready for a change.

Whow! You'll have to work on those double negative sentances- LOL.
Best of luck- 15 years of anything career-wise, is hard to find nowadays. I hope you learn a lot and share it with the rest of us!

UTI has a nice reputation. I'm sure you'll love the school, although we'll miss you here in CO. You're the only one outgoing enough to organize any meets in the Springs, LOL. Becckie and I have old friends that live outside Houston, and I can't say I like the place all that much. Armpit of Texas, indeed. I know you're looking forward to moving back there since you're a Texas guy, but I should say it's been surprisingly easy to overlook such a grievous fault while you've been here.
Does the factory Nissan program align you with a dealer, or do you get to find one on your own? How long of a contract do you have with the dealer after you graduate? If you can choose your dealer- choose wisely. For however long your contract is, the dealer can really be a pain to work for since you're indebted to them. More than a few techs at Academy Nissan wish they would have never contracted with them.

Thanks! I grew up around the frie dept and started when I 14 with the Explorer program. Joined the USAF right after HS and right into fire fighting. Fire Portection is a GREAT & Rewarding career. But the 24, 48, 72+ hour shifts and working holidays have taken a toll on me. Not to mention the physical beating my body has taken. Everything from pains to the crap I've inhaled. Sadly, I wouldn't doubt something medical arrising when I'm older.
Anyhow, I'm ready to do something I enjoy... working and being around cars. Like to open my own shop some day. Who knows where I'm headed after graduation. I'm just happy I'm starting something I enjoy.

I am gonna miss the friends I made in Colorado and the cruises/dinners. Hopefully someone will come in behind me and take the rings from me. Luckily talking with some San Antonio owners there are three track being built close to SA. So I will still be getting my track time in. Also the Hill Country of Texas is very beautiful and great for cruises. So the JWT 530s will be getting use other than to/from school/work.
As far as aligning me with a job afterwards I still need to do research on that. UTI does have programs to help you get a job right after graduation. However I'm shooting for the Porsche Technology Apprenticeship Program (PTAP) and become a Porsche Service Technician. I'm taking the Nissan elective as something to fall back on in case I don't get accept to PTAP.
