Thumbs up Performance Nissan

Well, I finally got the phone call today that it was ready to be picked up. Of course I was excited, and decided to eat before I got there.

Went to the counter signed off on the paperwork and went to inspect the car. Everything seems good, checked the odometer impressed that only 10miles were driven so far im happy with that. Javier escorted me out, cool guy than im off for the test drive...

First Gear: Wow a little hard but its understandable its new so no biggie. Second gear no problem. One thing I did notice is that the shifts are a lot longer, for some reason my other tranny was WAY SHORTER! The strokes are a lot longer, kinda need to get used to the long travel so now I know short shifter is in my list for next mod. That is one of the reasons why I never owned a short shifter because mine already felt short but this one is not short at all. Now when im ready to hit 3rd gear...

It was very nerve racking, because im used to hearing it grind so its like I felt it comming (kinda hard to explain the feeling) but its when you know something is there and all of a sudden I shift into third and WOW!!! 3rd gear is the smoothest of them all! no problems at all shifting is nice. But I still cringe everytime I go into 3rd gear, its like im waiting for it to happen but nothing goes wrong. I am very happy now that my transmission is working perfectly, I almost feel like I just got a New car.

I am pleased with the work so far, the window grease I havent checked it out yet... And the axle clicking havent heard anything yet so that is good. I'll keep you guys posted later

Performance Thumbs up!

Wicked4u2c,

Is yours an '03? I have an '04 with built date Feb '04. From day one, my third gear was never right.

Sometimes I get this "teeth" hitting as I shift to 3rd gear. Doesn't happen all the time. If i shift from 2nd to3rd and do it slowly (more like a split second pause in netural), it will be okay.

But if I shift from 2nd to 3rd straight, the "teeth" grind occurs once in a while.

I have been driving manual for like 14 years (4th manual car).

Would you mind driving my car(hehe) to prove that I am not paranoid? What city are you in? I am near Perf. Nissan. You know covina?

Thanks,
Tony

My car actually is an 02. The production date was October of 2002 so it was one of the first 350z's made. Actually, what you are describing is the same problem I had. I would have to pause from 2nd to third so that it wouldn't grind, if not it would be an endless grind problem. Take it to Performance Nissan, they will take care of you. Make sure you speak with Jeff or Javier which is the service manager. They are prompt with delivery so you should only be without a car for 1-2 day's max... Actually I have heard that they can have your car in and out on the same day so that might be a probability? I don't think I need to drive your car I think anybody who has driven manual for 14 years should know whats going on

Wicked4u2c,

Just how many times did you have to take it to the dealer before they agree to change your transmission.

When my car was in for an oil change at Perf. Nissan when it had 3k miles, the service guy say you might need to have it break in (wtf - transmission break in)?

I have about 12k miles now. How many miles do you have?

I never took it to the dealership, I just waited and have had this problem for over 1 year now. I finally decided to take it in before my warranty is over (1 year left). My tranny was very evident that it had problems, it was a guranteed failure and those who drove it felt the notch and of course got it to grind. So I talked to Jeff or I should say I PMed him and told him my situation. Without questioning my knowledge he ordered me a transmission and took my word for it, but than I had problems with the "X" employee at Peformance who tried to take my car for a Joy Ride to justify a reason to change the tranny (READ OTHER THREAD). In a nutshell talk to Jeff or Javier who is the service manager my car right now has less than 12k miles, I don't drive it everyday (weekends only) and everytime I took it out "GRIND" so I knew their was a problem. I took my car out today actually just got back home (1:00am) and the car is excellent!! The new transmission is awesome, I can gladly say I LOVE MY 350z. Believe me, I hated it to the point where I was close to getting rid of it (hate dealing with repairs that I can't do myself, not that im not capable but this is a warranty item) but performance made this a very easy experience with a few little problems but those got smooth out right away, I will def buy another Nissan or should I say I would buy a Nissan from their dealership anyday and give them my business! A+ again!

PS get it checked out right away, my tranny is so damn smooth that I wish I would of got it taken care of earlier, but than again I don't because Nissan has revised it like 8 times already so I should have the latest one?
