ROLLCALL: Speedventures HPDE Buttonwillow - Friday, March 11th
http://www.speedventures.net/3-11-2005_event.asp
At 3 miles, Buttonwillow is the longest and most technical track in the Los Angeles area. With twenty-three turns, three elevation changes, the banked "Riverside" sweeper, and a perfect drift over "Lost Hill" (AKA "Magic Mountain"), Buttonwillow offers both a unique learning environment, and a challenge to advanced drivers.
We will be running #14 CCW as highlighted in yellow below. This track is suitable for street cars, though we suggest that the Riverside turn should be approached at conservative speeds of 70-80 mph in cars without race rollover protection. The remainder of the turns on this track are moderate-speed (35 - 70mph). Most Turns have wide runoff areas, clear of major obstacles.

Also, who's got the hookup for free transponder rentals?

Richard, I think I saw you there.
We had serious fog in the morning that delayed the first session for a short while, but after it cleared the weather was excellent.
First time on buttonwillow for me -- had a great time until my brakes got mushy (brembos!). I even bled them the night before and added RBF600, not sure what's wrong yet.
No vids, didn't finish my camera mount in time. I'll have some good ones next time.

Yeah - the blue Z, right? I think you were the only 350Z, maybe one other? 3 EVOs, me, a red one, and the Kent Jordan/John Mueller race car they were sorting out for the SCCA races at Buttonwillow this weekend.
How did you do? CCW #14 is a great config. at Buttonwillow, which I have driven (in various configs) at least 15 times. The only better config is #25 CCW, which includes the Star Mazda turn instead of the sweeper at the bottom of the west loop.
The reason you have problems with your 350Z on the track is that the damn thing is so fragile. Something always breaks during a day at the racetrack in a Z. The EVO, in contrast, is bullet proof. You can just beat on it, beat on it, beat on it, and nothing ever breaks. So what if it isn't a chick magnet like the 350Z.

Nothings wrong with your Z's brakes. You were probably just riding them a little too much. You said it above, it was your first time out at Buttonwillow. I toasted my brakes the first time out. Now, after about 30 track days worth of experience just at Buttonwillow, I've learned to carry a lot more speed and use the brakes less. Now I just toast my tires!
You should come out to the NASA event at Buttonwillow in mid-April. I'll take you for a spin.

I thought it was cool how lunch was included, did aaron just start doing that? I don't remember getting a lunch ticket at springs ever.
Something is definitely up with the brakes, I get a little play in the pedal after hard turns, but a quick pump fixes it.
That guy in the CTS-V was hauling ***. I managed to pull away on a later session but then realized it was his son driving that time out. I'd love to have gotten a ride in the Radical, I wanted to ask for one but didn't get a chance.

Luckily you get to avoid the terrible Mazda Turn that day
