Question jet fighter flying?

Did I just hear (feel) a jet fighter fly over my house? (8:15pm ish on 9/11) I'm in South Bay. Anyone else hear it??? What's going on?? It sounded like it came from Redondo Beach area and flew over to Long Beach direction....

Im a pilot and I fly out of Long Beach Airport and knowing the amount of traffic coming in and out of LGB I must Assume it was probably a B-1 or an A10 which do visit LGB periodically. Among others. Now you go tme curious. Lol

However this late at night it puzzles me sicne there are flight restrictions!

Could've been a flyover for 9-11.
I know it was a jet fighter....(not macross). I know how they sound like b/c I've heard Blue Angels before and this one sounded like that, only quieter probably b/c it was flying solo as opposed to a group of 5 Blue Angeles.

Probably just Combat Air Patrol for 9/11 pre-cautions.

Air National Guard F-16s or F-18s from Pt Magu or San Diego..

You know what, i'm a verteran, and i think there should be daily patrols over all our metropolitan cities not just for the anniversary of 9/11 (although i'm pretty sure they do this). From 4 years ago to 50 years later, you just need one squad to do this.

there SHOULD be.. but cost of fuel, the sheer manhours to keep fighters airborne to cover such a large coast line and such would be really really expensive for us the taxpayers. plus you'd need more than one squadron to cover the whole state... you'd need to go mach 2+ to get from la to sf in time to intercept something in under 10 minutes... doing orbits around the states..

however, if anything does happen you'll get the "any $$ would have been better than preventing another 9-11 incident" but in reality i dont think the country has enuf to keep CAP on going.

Negative on the B-1.

I work at the Boeing Long Beach site ... I would have been notified if any of the B-1s were scheduled for arrival.

Agree w. Cheston. Probably a Hornet.

All I am saying is that there HAS to be PROACTIVE measures when the issue of homeland security is concerned. Yes I know that it takes more than 1 squadron of fighters, and i know that taxpayers are taking a hit, but I would pay the tax in order to give our troops the suport they need.

And check the news, there is a new terrorist video released. Yes, I am a veteran, but I am also not biased in my opinions. I was in the military and now i am a civilian. I would give $$$$ and my support in order to not have a major terrorist catastrophie hit the US.

While I do agree with taking most mesures nessicary to keep the country safe, I think you may be missing his point. All the "air cover" in the world would not only cost the taxpayers a small fortune but would act as a deterrent leading to bigger, less detectable terrorist attacks (like bio weapons and dirty bombs). Jet fighters cant do jack about those things. I think what a lot of the population doesnt realize is that there most likely will be attacks no matter what measures we take to prevent them. Its not worth stressing our economy over thwarting "possible" terrorist plots. If there is a REAL threat or attack, respond to it....if not, then dont. Its not rocket science but for the amount of $$ we're spending on this anti-terrorism/Homeland security bullsh1t you would think that it was.

Brian (is rather annoyed by the terrorfrenia in this country)
