Pls. Help, BUYING TIPs (San Diegans)
Sorry for the Cross post, not too many replies in General Talk.
First off, great site you guys have here, I've been catching up on posts and doing some research on this site.... Lots of good stuff....
Well here's my questions:
My Acura CL is my first 'new' car I bought, all I had to do was go to the dealer and pick one out from the lot...... Not the case for 350Z's, I've been playing with the Idea of purchasing a PPW enthusiast model (6spd of course) and the dealerships I went to didn't have any on the lot.... Well one dealer ship had one in the showroom but it was a Red track model...... I didn't talk #'s cuz I was just looking, but now I think I'm ready to talk #'s...... Does it cost more If a dealership has to order a specific one? Rumors are that ppl have been getting these below MSRP, true? I went to Nissan's site and built one for just under 30K, would I be able to get it for chealper? I really like this car, but I'm not much of a barter(?).... What kind of deals did most of you get, didu have to order or did u pick off the LOT?
(Sorry so LONG)
Now for the San Diegans:
Which dealership did you get your car from? Did they work with you pretty well? Any specific salesperson I should talk too?
I went to Mossy Nissan in Kearny Mesa and Nat'l City, anyone have good experience with them......
CLIFF'S NOTES:
What should I expect to pay for a PPW Enthusiast model?
What is 3% dealer holdback mean?
What's better, below MSRP or below INVOICE...?
TIA

In no particular order.
-In Cali MSRP seems to be the norm paid, though I have seen a couple posts, in Cali, below MSRP.
-Dealer Invoice is what the dealer paid; MSRP is suggested retail; so "below invoice" would be a price below what dealer paid. (I have not seen anyone claim paying less than invoice)
-"holdback" means an incentive held back by the manufaurer from the dealer.
- Unless you are willing to take a Z with miles on it, such as a demo car, and are willing to compromise on color and/or model you should expect to pay MSRP.
-You can do a search on Nissan to see if the car you want is in stock at any dealer. Then see if your dealer (after agreeing on price) will/can arrange a swap with the dealer who has the exact car you want. You may have to pay a delivery charge if the car is comming from very far away.
-Another option is to use a car broker. (My preference....dealer pays the broker).
By way of example, I wanted delivery in late December of a Brickyard without the spoiler. I found a Performance with the right specs at a dealer in Visalia.....300 miles from my house. My broker called, made the deal at MSRP, & the car was delivered to my door step two days later.
I paid extra $200 to have it delivered.
Hope this helps ya.

- Good advice, I've never heard of a car broker but sounds good, are you saying that the dealer pays broker? He still works to get ME a good deal? If you don't mind pls explain further....
Importrider - What was the name of your salesperson, when I go to the dealerships this weekend I'll let him know that he was recommended.....
.... Did you order yours or did you pick off the lot?
Thanks guys for the help.

Just don't go to mossy if you're young. I went in there for my pre-order and they just gave me the complete runaround. I mean, i know most dealerships look at a 21 year old and laugh, but I was there with checkbook in hand to throw down on my preorder, and after 2 trips to mossy of el cajon and 1 to mossy up by balboa off the 805 (not sure which one that is), I gave up and ordered in in LBC. They blew me off, I left my name & number at both places so they could contact me with any preorder info, i never heard anything out of them. Then I went to a bunch of websites, emailed their internet sales dept, and got my preorder for $500 guaranteed, with no markup, a discount of LoJack (I asked for it, not that they wouldn't have minded throwing one in for markup value), as well as delivery on August 20th (not like they had anything to do with that). I really reccomend using the web and emailing every dealership with exactly the car you want at the price you want it at (MSRP is about going rate). Most internet sales depts are very quick to respond, and frankly carry more weight at the dealer than your average salesperson.
Ah, the information age. Gotta love it. Good luck, hope to see you & your new car at a future meet, where we can all admire one of the few white Z's in southern cal.

erock,
Missed your post above earlier. Yes, broker gets commission from dealer. Advantage is brokers buy 300 or so cars a year from dealers....as opposed to 1 or 2 for the typical car buyer (you & I).
Therefore the broker has better knowledge of the market and dealers want to keep the brokers (reasonable) happy for repeat biz. The brokers have to do a good job for buyers or we won't come back.
If your want more info eithor post or PM me.
