Be carefull of debris on freeways!
Lets see... I've smacked a palm tree husk that fell off of the tree right in front of me and dragged it a half a block. Somehow ran over an empty plastic water or milk bottle that blew across the freeway. Ran over a part of a tire that I couldn't see coming because an SUV changed lanes right in front of me. Last night, I ran over a huge chain with my right side tires. All on the 405 North or South through the Y and Irvine. In my last car, an SUV threw a metal pipe up at me and it smacked my radiator and dented my hood as it flew over me. Insurance wrote it up as comprehensive, not collision...no points. I think that the Officer just didn't want to do any paperwork.

A semi blew a tire and it took out my front bumper, the rear m shaped brace and my rear bumper, and the plastic cover under the engine. It def sux's. And just so you all know if you report it to your insurance make sure you tell them it was moving(whatever you hit) if it was just sitting still in the road it goes against your collision coverage and can jack up your rates. If it was moving it goes under comprehensive and doesnt affect your rates. Plus most have lower deduct's on comp.
I know this thread is pretty old but this happened to me not too long ago. I was on the interstate and an 18 wheeler ran over another tire an 18 wheeler had blown out I'm guessing and it just completely demolished my bumper, I thought that was the end of it. I decided not to claim it and just pay out of pocket what I THOUGHT would just be to replace the bumper cover. Well I work at a car dealership and one of our service guys changed my oil and discovered coolant leaking and found that the radiator is damaged and the core support also. All in all adding up to $3k+ in damage when it's all over and done with. If I were to claim it on my insurance as comprehensive stating that the 18 wheeler had thrown it at my car, would this cause my rates to go up? Insurance companies are so tricky with all of these things. I'm just trying to figure out which route to go, I don't want my rates to go up even more.
Happened to me a couple of years back. Some big metal piece hit my front bumper cause it was sitting too low and ripped one side of the front lip off. I pulled over, yelled and screamed for a few seconds after looking at the damage, and unscrewed the other side of the lip. Put it in the car, drive back home, post it for sale on 350z forum and got myself an Amuse bumper.
