Default which speedway to go?

Hi everyone.

I never been to track or speedway or Drag strip before but, I wanna take my Z to the track to know my Z better and for my driving skills.

as you all know I'm in So Cal.

can anyone suggest any track that is decent, inexpensive, and close to home. I live near Glendale.

ohh another thing, is there any requirment things such as helmet to get in?

Irwindale it about 15 minutes away from you.

It's a 1/8 track, prepped better than any other in southern cali and it's open every thursday from 4 to 10 pm. It's perfect to learn and practice your launches since all the major work happens around the 1/8 mile.
I usually go every thursday but my car is not back yet so I'll have to wait a few more weeks

Next closests is California Speedway. They have Street Legal Drags September 23/24 and it's a 1/4 track. They just rebuild it and did a pretty decent job.

LACR is in Palmdale so it's a bit of a drive from Glendale but it's open at least wednesdays and fridays and you can usually do tons of runs. However the elevation including air density is about 7500 feet which dramatically slows you down.

All those cost usually $20 and you need to pass tech. If you're faster than 13.99 you'll need a helmet

I'm hoping to have my car ready for the 23rd there will be a bunch of us going you're welcome to stop by and get some pointers if you like

Good Luck!

Basically its the same rules for Cali Speedway.
The helmet and things like a role cage come into play after you hit 12's.
Cali Speedway is a 1/4 mile
And yes... its very high up in the air so..... if you can pull at least 14.1 then thats great
If you get any mid 13's there....... I WANNA SEE SLIPS

I could use some pointers.

How come I always get wheel hop no matter WHAT I do? I've tried different pressures, different launch RPMs, always wheel hop. I don't want to break my diff.

I have been told it's "because I don't know how to launch" but I'm starting to believe it has more to do with the way the car's built.

what kind of tires are you running at the track and at what pressure?

Are you getting wheel hop at launch, shifting or both?

Sorry, should've been more clear.

I'm running BFG KDW NT 285/35/19 in back I've tried everywhere from about 26 to 35 psi, and only have the major hop at launch. If I do a no-lift shift I just chirp it with no hop.

PS this is on the street, I haven't been to the drag strip mainly because I don't know what to do about the wheel hop.

If you run street tires you'll get wheel hop at launch, not much you can do about that. I'd recommend launching at a lower rpm and don't immediately hit wot. You've got to find that sweet spot between bogging and slipping.
Practise, Practise and so forth.

You'd be amazed how well you can improve running dr's and try 15" or max 16" rims in the rear for the track 19's will slow you down way too much.

Are you running forced induction or na? What are your best times so far, especially your 60' ?

Correction:
Cali Speedway Street legals will only be on the 23rd not 23rd and 24th...they changed it. I guess because it was empty on the second day last time...but that was because of the heat, these tools...

If you are looking for road racing, I suggest Streets of Willow. It's a technical course and isn't too harsh on stock brakes (I'm assuming you don't have a BBK yet).

you don't need to sign up, you just show up on time and make sure your car will pass tech (californiaspeedway.com)

and yes 5:30 am is about right, sucks but they only take I think 300 cars
