Default HOLY CRAP! Placentia Police in Irvine!

Was headed down Barranca today at lunch time and just before Jamboree I saw signs IN THE ROAD that said "All vehicles must stop!"

They were pulling over "modified" vehicles for tech/smog inspections. The trucks in IRVINE said Placentia Police. Irvine must be contracting with Placentia for vehicle inspections. What, they need extra Christmas money?

I pulled up to the line, Supercharger whistling away.. They waved me on through. I think I have a wet spot in the seat of my car still, I was SH!!!TTING Bricks.. =)

Anyone else see anything like this? AS you can imagine, I took a DIFFERENT route back to work! Holy Crap!

My car looks stock from the outside, definite advantage. I cannot believe the contracted out the vehicle checks to ANOTHER PD UNIT! There were two trucks and both had lifts and plenty of ground sliders to check under vehicles.

MY Vortech has a CA CARB EOD number so it is legal.. THANK GOD! My cats (Crawford high flow) are questionable. If someone knows what to look for, they may nail me on them.

My exhaust is stock (again) so this may have helped me get the "wave through". I still cannot believe they had this "STING" operation setup. I have seen plenty of DUI check points in this area, but this is my first "SMOG" check setup.. BASTARDS!!

reppintha510 - There are plenty of things to do in this area. If you catch the "ON" week, we can all commute up to Chino to see Jeff and friends for some R&R and a nice collection of Zs and Gs.

Email me direct when you get in town, I am only about 2 miles away from your Sister's place.

My car is very subtle. Based on the cars they had pulled over, they were looking for carbon fiber hoods, loud exhaust, and visible modifications that violate CA EOD rules.

My car is very subtle except for the SC whine. I got lucky, I know of stories where those with CA LEGAL mods had their cars impounded and it was up to them to prove their mods are completely smog legal with EOD stickers.

When you say your "TP", is that a Twin Popcharger? Is that the JWT Air filter?

Relax guys. This is not something specific to "modified" cars. It is purely voluntary. There is no such legal way for the police to setup some sort of stop in order to ticket you for mods.

Purely voluntary? I do not think those they were pulling in yesterday volunteered to have their cars put on the lift. They were not "asking them politely" to pull in, they were standing in front of their cars and directing them in.

As for who they chose to pull in, do not know the criteria they used but I am sure they were not picking on only vehicles modified in appearance.

I did not see any other equipment to check smog or emissions out the tail pipe, it appeared to be purely visual.

Of course, I do not know if they were doing anything if they did find something they considered questionable. Maybe nothing, other than making your day miserable!

DPS here used to set up random road blocks till they were called on it. No More. It was a little too "****" IMO

You can just deny having it done. They can't make you do it.

+1. Just like your right to refuse a cop when asking to pop your hood. If they could legally do it, they would just do it without asking.
