I've never been there in particular, but I have pretty high standards.

Chomp may not be a high-end sushi restaurant, but the fish is fresh.

I find it a bit odd that you state you have "high standards." It's really all relative. Not saying anything bad, but your "high standards" might equal poor quality fish in another person's eyes.

i'm pretty sure the characteristics that determine whether or not fish is fresh and healthy to consume arent subjective...
food standards are food standards. while common sense might not be objective, i hope fda regulations are.

In terms of sushi/sashimi, you can pretty much taste how fresh the fish is.

Im gonna have to disagree partially here. I mean, fresh fish is fresh fish. There's really no way around that. Any restaurant willing to pay the price can get the freshest fish; so that not hard. BUT, thats the easy half. The skills of the sushi chef that cuts your fish, now that the other crucial half.

Let me rephrase, my palatte is kind of sensitive to eating fish. Most of the time after I eat a lot of sushi I feel queasy and I have to stop. I have to try not to over-do it when I eat sushi.

So I don't get much enjoyment out of all-you-can-eat, unless it's the HIGHEST quality fish, which I have a hard time believing they can pull off for that price...

I understand this must be a place you REALLY like, and I'd be willing to try it based on someone's recommendation. But I really doubt I'd like it more than my regular spots that aren't all-you-can-eat

I wouldn't put it in that high regard, but it's pretty decent. Like you, I would normally steer away from an "all you can eat" sushi joint, but this place happens to be alright.

The sushi chef definitely makes the difference. Not sure how it usually works at other restuarants, but some high end places has the sushi chef personally pick out the fish that morning.

Actually at my favorite japanese/sushi restaurant, Matsuhisa in West Hollywood/BH, I prefer the fusion and cooked dishes rather than the actual sushi.

Oh MAN, i totally agree. Matsuhisa's sushi is BS. Completely overated and over priced for their BS sushi. I was stunned at how horrible it was.

Very true. Also, Sushi is an art form, not meant for stuffing your face.
