Ok, so I had this debate with a girl I knew since high school. What is the definition of a player?

We all know the universal meaning... which is someone that cheats on a bf/gf/spouse. We both agreed on that. However, I think dating multiple girls while keeping it not-so-serious is perfectly fine... and my friend thought that dating several people, no matter how casual it may be, constituted a player.

As for me, I don't believe in FATE... I believe in statistics... and the more you meet, the bigger pool you have to choose from. Of course, if I do find someone that I wanted to date seriously, I'd keep it exclusive.

 

That's never been my definition of a PLAYER. A cheater is a DAWG, or just plain cheater.

FYI - a player can be a guy or girl in my book. Probably not everybody's. ?

A player is just somebody who dates girls/boys casually but is smooth enough that they want to BE with him/her, whereas he/she wants to keep it on a casual basis -- so he/she sort of breaks their hearts a little.

This usually means a guy/girl who dates several girls/guys at once, but it doesn't have to.

I kinda agree with iris. A player is someone who has more than a couple girls on the line, and keeps all of them close enough, but just far enough away.

I personally am not any kind of player. I'm more of a one girl at a time person (MAYBE 2 if I'm not *really* into the first girl). But i think it's fine to date a few different girls, but just don't try to give them the idea that they're the only one, or that you're commited when you're not.

I work with a couple guys that are fully fledged players. They have like 4 or 5 girls that they kick it with, and they ***** and complain when one of them starts to get any kind of serious, and that kind of bothers me. It's like WTF, what did you think was gonna happen? You should be ready for it.

If you're gonna play the game, just be ready for what happens.

 

Yeah, I guess there are seperate definitions for each of the terms... while sometimes they're mistaken by some to mean the same thing.

I guess the term player is a more of a guiltless swinger. Where the player might carry on dating multiple people, while a swinger just has multiple one-nighters.

I guess he/she is only a cheater when there's a lie brought in as a factor.

 

In my dictionary...

Swingers usually refers to couples who shares their wives/girlfriends with others. It's more of an "open" relationship sexually but they typically remain devoted to their spouse (i.e. they're promiscuity is to enhance their sex life, not compromise their relationship).

Players are guys/girls who enjoy the thrill of seducing and sleeping with multiple women/men. They typically will change their "personality" to fit the women/men they are trying to seduce. I don't trust these type of women/men. They tend to lie easily and are sweet talkers (they say what you want to hear, not what is the truth). If they are dating a girl/guy, it's just for sex and will tyically not consider the relationship serious (i.e. the dating status is more for the other person).

I don't mind one night stands and stuff. I don't think that constitutes being a player as long as you play the "game" knowing that it's not about score carding. Usually both parties in the one night stand want sex... that's it... a heated night of passion... nothing wrong with that. You scratch her back, she scratches yours.

Cheaters are people who are in a serious relationship and don't have the ***** or conscience to break up with the girl/guy before dabbling in with someone's else hole/stick. Cheaters are worse than players in my book cause they know they are doing something wrong but continue to repeat the same mistake over and over.

A player is any person that goes out with multiple people at one time for the sake of his/her own benefit and doesn't give a hoot about them. On top of that the people that him/mer are dating have no clue about all the others.

It's fine to date as many people as you want, as long as they know. Even if you don't tell them straight out, at least not denying it is ok. How do you know what you want until you sample a bit.

 

In my opinion, I think this is as close as anyone has got to answering the question. If you ask me, "player" was derrived from the saying I've heard in the late 70s, early 80s. "Do you play the field?" "I play the field." "Therefore, I am a player." The field contain your objects of sexual gratification.

It's like Butterfly said, it's about going out with multiple people for self-gratification and to sample the fish in the ocean. And, like Butterfly said, the field has no idea about what's going on the otherside of the ball park.

 

That sounds more like a "playa" to me, someone who is a little more street than a player. A playa isn't just playing the field. They're out for conquest and will do whatever it takes to get the next piece of ***. I'm distinguishing a playa from a player because a player is playing the field in hopes of eventually finding someone. A playa on the otherhand couldn't care less about finding someone.

Your definition of the "player" would make EVERYONE in the world players... except for monks and nuns.
