I have always wanted the inerds of the headlights to be black but am not keen on taking them apart or buying cheesy e-bay ones that dont look as good as what other members here have done on their own. I found some black Euro lights on e-bay but they look cheesy, like they should be on the BatMobile from the 60s or somthing. So I went to the place next door to my work that tinted my windows for a great price and asked if they do overlays. I have considered them but hate the fact that there is little to no gloss and it looks flat or matted compared to the OEM plastic. So the guy says no, because it looks like crap and Im like yeah I know but aside of aftermarket Honda lookin stuff, what am I to do? Thats when he pointed to his silver truck. The tails were tinted a shiny black as if it came from the factory that way. The brake lights still shined brightly through the tint but it looked perfect. You can still see red with the sun on it but he did 50% front and back. He reccomends I do 50% in front and 20% in rear. That should be completely black accept for when I touch the brakes. The headlights were also tinted and shiny but it was more smoked than black, but looked better than anything else I have seen and matched real good with the rest of the silver black theme of his truck, which just happens to be what I am doing with my Z, CS and black. Apparently its not an overlay but somekind of smoked clearcoat or somthing. Anyway, here are some pics, $220 to do all 4 corners, what do you think? He says its normally $250 but .........blah blah blah, so should I do this? Im thinkin its a better option than E-bay lights.

I got my previous tail lights tinted at my local bodyshop. I was thinking exactly like you about the flat looking light if you put an overlay. What the bodyshop did was prep the light, spray it with transparent black paint and clear(all with good PPG products), and it came out nice and shiny. You could take care of it just like paint. Only cost me around 35 per light. you should try that.

So do you want to black out the inside of the headlights or just tint them?
If you want to tint them, I'd just buy a spray and do it yourself. Don't go to dark though as I think it looks ghetto/ricey.

I would rather pay a little to have it done right, then do it myself and take the chance of fu@kin it up. Im thinkin 50% front and 15-20% rear. The pics above, are 50% front and rear and I think the headlights look good but not too ricey dark but the tails could be much darker. Im thinkin completely Black tails, just so you can see the red lights when I hit the brakes but otherwise, glossy black is the idea in back.

Did mine myself... I think they turned out pretty good imo, have gotten compliments and they are still super shiny like factory. used the VHT nightshades and a lot of clearcoat. It was a special clear they usually use on boats and had some UV protection or something so it shouldn't fade anytime soon.

**sorry, pic was taken on a cloudy day and in the garage, it looks like a very dark red marron color durring daylight. almost black in the evening and the light still shines through perfectly when the brake is applied.
