Alan,

Best wishes for you and your family. My uncle lives on Smokesignal just around the corner from yours. A friend was able to get in last night and confirm his house is OK, but the slope behind his house is totally burned. He was very lucky.... although probably not out of the woods.

I tried to go by this morning and check on it, but the police have the neighborhood shut down very tightly.

hope you're all safe in SD.. i keep reading about julian and palomar and ramona and all those surrounding areas burning and i remember the great run we had a few months back... might have to drive down after all this is over and take do that run again and see what's left of the place. makes me so sad.. it was a beautiful, serene area.

I just got back from the RB area. They are only letting in people that need medications, and those are being driven into the area in police cars. No private vehicles.

Maybe tomorrow I can find out for sure, but one of the officers I talked with said he thinks he drove down my block this morning and everything looked fine. I also talked to a friend that was in the area earlier and he thought that my block was spared, so two sort of witnesses give me a sense of gaurded optimism.

I know one friend for sure that had fire damage, but also know of two that were spared. We are supposed to get back to our homes tomorrow to find out for sure.

I still don't know how livable it will be. Gas, water and electric are probably off. I still can't believe its only been a day and a half. It feels like a very long week so far.

Got back in yesterday. The only damage so far is the paint on one side of the house was bubbled, and along one roof line there are two small char marks (about 1' X 1') where some embers burned them selves out. Fortunatly I have concrete roof tiles and mostly stucco siding, so it didn't go, but it was real close!!!

Most of the reporting that you see from the RB area that shows all the burned out houses is being shot about a block away from me.

So far we know of 4 close friends that have nothing left, and 2 that have damage. I am on the verge of tears everytime I drive into and out of my neighborhood thinking of how much some people have lost. Watching my neighbors sifting through ash piles looking for anything that might be salvagable is heartbreaking.

Here is a link to the latest map of fire damaged homes in my area:Fire Map

Its going to take a long while for the community to get through this one.

Thanks for everyone's support during this very difficult time.

Bubbled paint, you were damn close to flashpoint. Very fortunate.
Once the homes are rebuilt, yours may go up in value just FYI.

I can't even begin to imagine how hard it is to not know if your house is gone. It's like that during hurricanes here but I've been lucky enough where I haven't had to evacuate yet.

They are saying they may have found one of the ppl that are accused of starting this?? If so they need to torture him..for a very long time before killing him.

I'm glad you're home and your family is ok, your friends that lost everything will be in my thoughts.
