I'd say for the most part, San Diego is pretty diverse and tolerant like some parts of Hawaii.

We just have spots in our city where ignorant folks gravitate to.
Get a little liquid courage and racist crap starts spewing out of their mouths.

Sad part is, sometimes they offend the wrong people, and bullets starts spewing out of pistols. I don't want to be the innocent bystander hanging around.

So right. It is very diverse here and it's amazing during the fire we didn't have problems like during Katrina. I think we show a lot of unity and outreach here. Except Santee 'Klantee', I still hear stories.

Hard to tell if the guys behind us were some rich priviledged kids or some new Marines/Sailors from the 'sticks'. I was in the Navy so I've seen all kinds in the Navy and Corps, usually after the first year or so everyone wisens up to the 'team' concept or gets the sh*t beat out of them and then get the Hell out of the military.

i grew up in the suburbs of Rancho Penasquitos for 11 years from a little kid to junior high, i experienced alot of racial tension in the 80's being an Asian American growing up there, spit on, jumped, followed around grocery stores, called racial slurs like *****, gook, nip, slope..... i guess they didnt have a derogatory name for a Filipino or they were just too ignorant, in any case i guess i can say it helped me prepare myself for the world out there....

from reading the last 2 posts im glad i changed, and people are less ignorant...

good stuff, violence is whack.... people dont know how to not cross the line regarding the respect factor for one another

Cool thing was, last time I went out to PB Bar n Grill, my girlfriend and her friends were joking around with some Marines. They were pretty friendly...but out of the blue another kid approaches us and was like,

"You guys ok? Were those Marines giving you a hard time??? Because if so, let me know I'm an MP."

I was shocked that this kid was an MP and scoping out the scene to see if everything was in order.
Guess the new recruits from other states can get rowdy?

He was probably one of those hall monitors in junior high who didn't get any friend interaction so instead he likes to ruin the fun.

Sometimes the Marines do get the 'frat attitude' and take it into public. Finish boot camp and they'll think they've defeated the world, big whoop.
