Going through some of my old threads tonight and was just curious to know the outcome of this event.

And I quote:

PASADENA - A 17-year-old girl pleaded guilty on Monday to four felony counts in a street racing case that killed a 19-year-old student from Temple City.
The girl, whose name was not released because of her age, was convicted in juvenile court. She will serve three months in a county probation department camp, and will have to pay restitution to the victim's family.
The prosecutor in the case, Jennifer Gowen, declined to comment on the case. Sandi Gibbons, a spokesperson for the county District Attorney's office, said she was not sure who made the decision to try her in juvenile court, rather than as an adult.
She added that the maximum sentence that the defendant could have received as a minor would have been placing her in a juvenile facility until she turned 25.
Take a young girl's life and you get THREE!!! freaking months in county probation. How ridiculous is that?

My heart and prayers goes out to her and her family.

it's actually quite common for young, first offenders who get involuntary vehicular manslaughter or similar charges to get very little to no jail time and probation. Is it just? that's arguable. But should we really throw these people in jail with the rest of the criminals and the foot the bill for their life and housing? I certainly don't think so. Thing is we all make bad choices @ times and quite often we deserve a chance to not have our lives be condemned here on earth for it. Right or wrong is another debate I'm not going into... but I did want to point out it actually quite common that people get a slap on the wrist for something like this. I admit I didn't bother reading the article but I am surprised she only got 3 months probation. her mom musta blown the judge in College or something...

I'm not condoning nor defending street racing in any way, shape, or form but the news, and police in this instance, need to report the cause correctly.

My condolences to the departed's family.
