Of course it depends on how much you put down. It's just really effing expensive here.

But if you are going to make 75-95K (where do I sign up?) you'll be fine. You'll just have to rent for a while to save for a down payment.

There are many people getting buy on MUCH less than those numbers. There are more nice places to live in San Diego than just those and it would take too long to name them all.

If you are going to work in Vista, live up north- only for convenience for commuting. Otherwise, live where you can afford.... which on those numbers will be almost anywhere unless you require a lavish lifestyle.
Since I'll be working in Vista, I'm considering Oceanside, Ecinitas, Vista, SanMarcos, Carlsbad and Escondido. But I heard Oceanside has a gang problem with rowdy marines on the weekend, and have fireworks noise from Seaworld. Vista also has a gang problem. Ecinitas is too expensive and too far of a commute. And SanMarcos/Escondido is too hot/dry, and cookie-cutter houses. So Carlsbad sounds like a good fit. Are houses expensive there? Houses in Seattle start at $350-$450K here in Seattle. Rent is about $800 here.

If you can hear the Seaworld fireworks from Mission Bay all the way up in north county, you must have super incredible bionic hearing, cause they're about 20-30 miles apart, depending where in N.county.

I kinda like the fireworks, on a nice summer night, go out and check them out.

+1. Not sure who told you that and/ or what they were thinking.

If hot/ dry is a concern for you, then you'll have to live on the coast.

I've heard the term cookie-cutter houses before, but I don't know what it means. Every neighborhood I've seen besides multi-million dollar estates are planned communities with only a few different models to choose from. If this is what is meant by cookie-cutter and you want to avoid that, I have no idea where you'd live- unless you have serious $$$.

Every area (well, most) has a bad area. Gangs in Vista and Oceanside exist, but only if you live in the lower income areas of those areas. And I have never thought of it as a serious problem, but, of course, I live in Escondido, so maybe I don't see it. My friends who live in Oceanside ($600k houses) have never mentioned gangs.

Median price of a house is like $450,000. Carlsbad, being close to the water, would be above average I think... but a quick trip to Realtor.com would confirm that.

Thanks for all your input, and thanks DVFlyer.

I heard Guajome Cnty, Scripps Ranch, Poway, Solona Beach, Encinitas, are nice areas.

Also I like living in Asian communities if possibe: so maybe Carmel Valley/Clairmont/University Cty/MiraMesa/Rancho. There's City Heights but they say its super dangerous there.

Just googled Guajome county... what do you know, learn something new... never heard of it before.

Mira Mesa/ Penasquitos (just north of MM) would be good places if you are looking for Asian communities.

I think you need to revise your thread title to: Looking for an Asian community in San Diego. That might yield some more specific information to your needs.
