Default Anybody here have 3rd gear grind problem?

Recently I found out that my car grinds on third gear. It only happens when I am cruising on low rpm and try to shift fast into third gear. My roommate's 350z does the same thing on third gear. Anybody have this issue? I did a little research on the forum and found out lot of you guys have grinding problem. Did you guys replace them? Did it happen again? What shop did you guys take? LMK.. I still have extended warranty left. I have to use it while I have it =)

I have the same problem with 6th gear. Seems to be a problem with the 06s. I have already had my Tranny replaced twice (under waranty) and it is acting up again. Just no luck.

I had the same problem recently but on 5th gear in my 05. I took it to Superior Nissan in Carson but they gave me some lame bs saying it was my clutch. Tech told me to get a second opinion, so I did at Cerritos Nissan. Tech rode along w/me and automatically said it was the tranny. They had it replaced within a week under warranty. Just make sure you drive with the tech and duplicate the problem yourself. I think Carson gave me crap because I'm a younger fellow. Since you're in Pasadena, I say try Performance Nissan in Duarte.

After you fixed your problem, did it happen again? I don't see point of going there if it's going to happen again. It does not grind when I shift slow.. but That's not the reason why I bought Z.. to drive slow..

Hey Kevin, this is a common problem with the Zs, the synchros goes out pretty easily. Since your still under warranty you should bring it in so that you can get it replaced with the 009 which are supposedly a bit better. Try WestCo Nissan they helped me out with my replacing my tranny and engine twice Gluck bro let me know if you have any other problems.

i had that problem with my 03'. Brought it to the dealer and they replaced the entire tranny, or so they claim, under the 3yr warranty.

Check the TBS, I believe there is an annoucement there for that problem that should be covered whether or not you're in warranty.

I have the exact same problem, but with a 04.5, and I'm wondering will the "extended warranty take care of this"?

^I have an 04 the .5 moniker is for the revised 04's. Basically 04.5's are revised 04's that had a majority of the early problems addressed. The 04.5's were the first major revamp for the Z33. Use the search button to get more info.

I haven't had any problems yet but it's only been a few weeks. If you get it fixed under warranty then at least you're getting it fixed for free. And yeah, I told the tech at Carson that this car wasn't made to driven slow, but he still told me to get that second opinion. Another thing is I had them put it in writing that he said it was the clutch. I did it to have proof that they were giving me the run around if I had to take it to Nissan headquarters or something higher.

It should be covered under the powertrain warranty (5yrs 60k miles).
