Buying a Z, Surf City Nissan Experience, Need some advice also
hey everyone, I know i already put up a thread in the buying/leasing section but I thought i'd try here since some people might already had experience at this particular dealer and I could also get better input. Anyways I saw an add on autotrader for an 04 350z Touring 35k miles priced at $19,995 located at Surf City Nissan (Huntington Beach Nissan). I just got back tonight after negotiating for about an hour an a half. The best offer I got was $339/Monthy for 5 years/60 months and included a extended manufacturers warranty(+3years or 100k ). Some other details: $4500 they offered for my trade in, interest rate was 7.49% and they lowered the cost of the car to $18500, my credit is near perfect +700, so that how we got to the figure $339month/60 months which i think is stil real steep, seeing the car sales industry is take a dump and there isn't a high demand for sports cars with crazy gas prices . I know they will call back, I am gonna tell them $310 month/60 months, take it or leave it. What do you guys think, fair? Appreciate any helpful advice/input, this is definitely one of the better forums/site with great members
.
Btw the manager was a total ***, started using the bullying tactic added in with good ol cursing which caused me to starting laughing getting him more angry
. Plus the original deal they gave me was $383monthly/72 months
LOL

dont negotiate in terms of monthly payments. Negotiate OTD price. This will give you a breakdown of what the car is costing you, the warrenty, tax liscence registration and fees. The dealers like to negotiate in terms of payments because this way its easier for them to manipulate numbers and you dont fully understand what your paying.
so here's the breakdown your showing so far.
price of car=18500.00
sales tax at 7.75=1433.00
less your trade in of 4500.00
this leaves you with a total finance amount of 15,433.00(not including the warrenty or registration fees. I'm not sure if they will renew the registration, or just let you continue the current registration in which case shouldn't cost you anything except a $15.00 dmv transfer fee.)
so even with that 15 dollar transfer fee,(remember, renewed registration and warrenty still not included, and possibly some BS dealer documentation fees) your monthly payments at 7.49% for 60 months should be $309 for 60 months.
so all in all, if you can get your 305 a month deal for 60 months, that sounds like a sick deal because i just used edmunds to appraise your Z, and that thing came out to 22k.
are you sure its an 04 touring with only 35k miles?
and btw, if your Fico Autoscore came in above 720, i can finance you through my work(Kinecta Federal Credit Union) at 5.99 assuming your income is sufficient for your credit request.

OC should be 7.75. back where i came from in idaho, sales tax was 5% :-(
+1 on the otd price. Also, you can get extended warranty plans from other carriers besides Nissan. it's just another form of insurance. Something else to check out. The only thing I don't know about these plans is whether or not they are accepted by dealerships... probably not.
I think you might benefit from taking a skilled buyer with you.
The dealership is trained to defeat you financially. The advice
you got is great, but I think you sound unprepared for what
is essentially battle. It would be a good idea to start with your
family and friends. Do you know someone who has good negotiating
skills? - Start there. I like to have two people - usually myself
and the actual buyer. This helps even the playing field, b/c often
the dealer will use multiple sales agents/managers/loan officers
to intimidate the buyer, similar to the situation you described.
Good luck and keep posting.

Anyways I am going to stop by again tommorow morning with an experienced buddy negotiator , so hopefully me and the dealer can reach an agreement. I'll keep ya guys posted !

Go in looking for a fight. Don;t necessarily force the transaction on
the day you return. Have the sales manager initial the TOTAL sale price
when you finish up for the day. He should give you at least 48 hours
to decide... Again, good luck
I work for Surf City Nissan, we're under a new desk and management right now. As far as the pricing goes, it's pretty fair. Your offer and their offer, did you try and split the difference for maybe... 324-325?
As far as the market for vehicles taking a dive, oddly enough, the used Z cars are selling, we only have two available on our used lot and they're both automatic. People try and use the tactic of saying we're hurting for business as a ploy to get the vehicle way lower than what we can possibly sell the vehicle and make a tiny bit of profit.
Negotiating is good, but you can also over-negotiate. I don't know if they offered you the same deal as the night before but... who did you deal with at the dealership?
