Default moved from WA to CA and got ticket within 10 days

So I haven't lived here a month and already got a ticket in the mail for Failure to Stop at Red Light (while turning right) via Photo Enforcement camera.

1. It doesnt state the penalty.
2. I still had my WA plates.

any advice?

Has anyone tried this? you have to pay $25 to download his shareware that'll let you properly contest the ticket without appearing in court.

Also, I have yet to acquire a CA plate and drivers license. Wondering if I should get the license before the DMV 'gets news' of my infraction.

I don't think the fact you have WA plates means anything- although I hope you've registered your car here since you have been here longer than the 15 day (or is it 10?) grace period for registering a car coming from out of state.

When you say it doesn't state the penalty, what does that mean? The code violation or the $$ penalty?

Your car and license (?) being registered in WA might help you to avoid the typical after effects of getting a ticket provided that the CA DMV does not report infractions that have been settled to the WA DMV. If that is the case, you should not need to go to traffic school (if available for your infraction), no points on your license, and no jacked up insurance premiums.

May be worth a 10 minute phone call to the DMV to find out if they share/report infractions to WA.

I think I got the Courtesy Notice with my photos of the infraction (and video possibly). Nowhere does it say what the fines are.

I did some digging on TicketAssassins and found out its a SCAM.

I wonder if this works... http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/forms/fillable/tr205.pdf

yeah i just called DMV... the DMV in CA does share info to DMV in WA... nationally in fact... so... i guess i have to pony up... it doesnt say how much my fine is though, and they told me i have to go to traffic school? wtf?...

what kind of state is this where people can drive like bats-out-of-hell on freeways but get dinged for not fully stopping at redlights or stopsigns??? do they give tickets for jaywalking as well here?

Alrighty…The avoiding the trailing penalties is out.

Technically, if you plead guilty you should not have to attend traffic school. However, most people opt for traffic school because the ticket(s) then remain at the court level and are not reported to the DMV – thus avoiding points on your license.

If I recall correctly (and don’t quote me on this exact figure) but Red Light Infractions **can** be as much as $400 – it is one of the most expensive tickets in CA aside from carpool lane infractions. BUT, if the courtesy notice you received does not have an amount, then it should indicate that you will need to attend traffic court – or at least visit the clerk of the court (not the judge).

And yes, this is the type of state that will hand tickets out for:
J-Walking
Tint on the driver’s and passenger side windows
Not wearing a seat belt
No front license plate
Excessively loud/noisy exhaust
Etc, etc….

I have seen 2 people go to court on these.
Both told the judge that they were turning right while someone else was running the red light.

Both got off free

we have these red light cameras all over where I live. They only get about 1/3 of the tickets to stick.
