Was not sure if it is illegal to tint the brake lights, I had them done to my Z when living in Arizona and never had a cop pull me over, I finally get back to SoCal and I am literally pulled over in the first week for no front license plate and tinted brake lights (luckily I rolled my tinted windows down because I saw him eyeing me). Just wondering what the law is out here...it had been awhile for me and I am not up to date on this stuff.

I thought they weren't illegal as long as they can be seen a certain amount of feet away. I guess I was wrong. Unless the cop was being a dick which wouldn't suprise me.

But that can also be interpreted as the lamp has to show red, not the lens. So if you smoke them, but they still display red then they really can't say anything. I've had mine smoked for almost 3 years and only get tickets for my fromt plate, window tint and exhaust. They ignore my overlays (CHP, Sheriff, and various PD's from South Bay to Rancho Cucamonga).

Good thing about my overlays is that your reflectors are still quite visible from a distance .

i just had a question i live in Florida and i am here in Beverly hills for a few months. well anyways i was going to buy a new z out here the one i want has a carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber eyelids, stillen exhaust, Crawford performance CAI, and Crawford performance intake manifold is any of this illegal in Cali i know it wont be a problem in Florida but i am still going to be here for a few months

 

not illegal but the carbon fiber hood would make it attracting for cops to pull you over and find some lame excuse to site you for numerous things...


if living in cali werent such a pain believe me id have more carbon things present on the car and a ginormous spoiler for track...

one of the reasons why ive been hesitant on a spoiler is because it simply attracts authories from the rear and tehy automatically assume your car is for racing or are a "racing type" vehicle... hella lame if you ask me the only real way not to get sweated here in so. cal is not to drive like ***** and you should be fine...



perfect scenario fix up car driving like ***** vs. a stock car driving like ***** you would get hella rolled quick status ......... before they even look at the other car

 

well the seller told me that if i have it registered in fl there should be no problem with the mods and no front licence plate but idk

It certainly could be argued that overlays are not intended to modify the original performance of the lighting equipment...it would be more difficult to argue they weren't intended to modify the original design. At issue might be when did our specific tail light bulbs come into use (they may be grandfathered if in use in some really old cars.

21604 requires laboratory testing showing ones product meets lighting standards....Maybe bat has tested his....
