I don't know how carefully they would look. How can they prove it?

Oh, and if you do get caught... probably just a fix-it ticket. I'm only guessing.

My state Emission Programs can open the hood or put the car on a lift if they believe the car has been tampered with. If the cats are missing it is $2500.00 for each cat, $5000 for the 350Z

For that price, leave the cats on and use the money to get some forced induction instead... sc or tt... but definitely don't "buy" a fine like that!

California has actually experimented with road-side emissions testing, where they used test equipment placed on freeway onramps. I saw them several places throughout SoCal a few years ago. Don't know what came of that program though.

I've also heard of road-side temperature testing of cats with a long probe, as they operate within a particular temperature range.

As they say, don't do the crime if you can't do the time!

I don't know much about cats and catbacks, etc. I know that some catalytic converters are described as hi flow. Are those significantly different from stock?
