Smile road trip hwy 1

Had a few weeks off work and could not decide where to go.Then I thought of Hwy 1 up the coast in the Z.
I have lived in US 23 years and never gone up this route before, so snap decision, pack a case (yes a suitcase does fit in the Z plus many more items.)

The car performed great! drove to Cambria for the first night.next 2 nights in Monterey and the next 2 nights in Pacifica a few miles S of S.F. Did the "Bullit" thing up the streets of SF with that exhaust note reverberating brilliantly around the narrow, steep streets...

Only saw 3 other Z's the whole trip.Closest encounter with Z was a silver one that actually parked next to mine at hotel on the beach in Pacifica...?? anyone from S.Cal. 2 weekends ago??
Made a slow/stopping trip up to S.F. but came back down hwy1 to Half Moon bay onto 92 to 280 ...What a freeway!! then back onto 101 fwy to Solvang for lunch and finally home to Simi Valley.
From hotel on Pacifica Beach to home 421 miles.and felt very comfortable with no aches/pains.
Top speed attained on trip 135, and rock steady, my wife was even putting on make-up without no problem..

Total trip mileage 941. AVERAGE 21mpg. average speed to Cambria 65mph!
All in all a great trip in a great car. At first I thought about putting on the excess mileage! But why do you buy a car like the Z but to drive it......??

I love that drive, I grew up in Morro Bay and Los Osos. Last time I drove that way, I did it in my POS Honda Accord. That damn car had like no brakes and on the way back down south I did it at night. Well the fog had rolled in and it made for a very hairy drive.

Someday, I'll do it again, but this time in a car that I can appreciate the view instead of worrying if I'm going to fall off the edge of a cliff.

I did the same drive a year back in my M3. I also stayed in Cambria, my grandparents live there. It is a great road if you have time to enjoy it. I think I need to do this drive again in my Z real soon.

It is a great road, if you happen to drive it when there is little or no traffic. I've done it many times in a variety of cool cars. The one standout was a trip south from Monterey in a silver SR-71, an HKS tuned 300ZX TT with 428 street-legal horsepower. That was a quick car.

I just did the 1 last month to get to the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Took the 1 from Morro Bay up to Monterrey. That is one of the nicest rides anywhere. To bad I wasnt in the Z at the time. I rented a POS monte carlo. That thing had mad body roll and my fiance got sick.

I did the Hwy 1 L.A. to S.F. trip years ago in my Porsche Targa. One of the best road trip ever. I'm waiting for my roadster to arrive in late Sept or first of Oct to do the same trip again. Took some great pics in Carmel at the 17 mile drive too. Where did you stayed along the way???

Sounds great, when I go up the SF I always take the 1... great highway to test the car... but can't go too fast... it's scary to drive there at night when you are all alone... and no light except the headlight

Jesse English... How old are you? I live in Los Osos... You big city folk really enjoy the scenic drives wayyy too much. We have nothing to do out here besides look at the scenery! Oh well, it's nice and there isn't much to worry about via crime and that type of negative stuff.

I'm sure you don't know me though because I went to school in Atascadero and Paso Robles.

Excuse me Bob - is this the new Crew - Speak.
Or is it a hang over? ( I could get with the new Lingo - if you have suggested rules - countering common grammar )

Cheers Amer's -
