My Hell at Cerritos Nissan
Just to get it out of the way, I only take my Z to a dealership when I know my issues will be covered under warranty. I do not race, track, nor drive my Z "hard" a few of the members on this forum can attest to this.
Cliffs for the sloths
1. New tranny and New JWT clutch/flywheel combo put in 5000 miles ago.
2. Z starts breaking down
3. dealership want $1050 to pull tranny and inspect
4. Third party mechanic works on Z finds that dealership is at fault
5. Dealership refuses to take responsibility
With this said in May 2008 I took my Z in for the 3rd gear grind, and got my transmission replaced with a CD009, and at the same time I put in a Brand New JWT lightweight flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate.
Now it's May 2009 and I've only put a little under 5000 miles on the brand new parts. I notice that my flywheel is making extraordinary noises even for the JWT flywheel. I roll to my everyday mechanic and he says that it sounds like I have a bad bearing.
I roll to Cerritos Nissan and they want $1050 for them to pull my transmission, if the problem is not under warranty, so I declined and took it to my shop just in case Cerritos Nissan tries anything funny due to my aftermarket components.
My mechanic came in on Memorial day and started work
He found that a bearing went bad, and that my flywheel was loose from the crankshaft. The clutch and pressure plate came off with ease, but when he removed the flywheel he found that 2 of my bolts broke off into the crankshaft, and that another two bolts were missing half of their thread.
He believes that all the damage originates from what I call dealership negligence. The conclusion is that the flywheel bolts were not properly torqued down. I got three other opinions from three other shops, and they all agree with my current mechanic.
I went back to Cerritos Nissan yesterday, and showed them the parts. They said the flywheel is not defective, and that the bolts failed. When I ask them what they can do they all scatter, and I'm like WTF. In the end the service director says that he will check out my Z to see if it in fact is dealer error.
So today rolls around, and the service director is about 4 hours late, and once he looks at all the parts he states that this is a one time occurence, and that they cannot be held responsible. The service director, and the shop foreman from Cerritos nissan both think that "there was too much boost" and in the back of my head I'm like WTF when the hell did I go FI?
So the end result is them not taking responsibility for one of their tech's negligence. With me having a hefty repair bill, and a very expensive paperweight due to my JWT flywheel now being garbage.
Currently I will be paying my mechanic for all repair costs.
I have notified Nissan U.S.A corporate
I have also submitted a claim to the California Burea of Automotive Repair.
I also have not driven my Z for almost 2 weeks which really sucks.
I will also be updating this thread as things progress.
Now here come the pics, and sorry I'm photo illiterate.

Broken bolts in the crankshaft and a broken guidepin

Bad bearing which was causing the thing I'm grabbing to move around

pics of paperweight due to flywheel now having to much play

I hope everyone learns something out my horrible experience, and that no one ever uses Cerritos Nissan services for anything even for warranty work.

dood thats fuccked up man...
when my 5th gear was grinding i took it to performance and john took care of me under warranty and i had them put in a clutch/flywheel as well..
i just got an oil change 2 weeks ago and my CEL went on shortly after to find out it was an IVT sensor or something i dont even know what it was that sounded like a racing came in my car... made my car run crappy.. luckily i have extended warranty from when i bought the car and this $600+ part / labor was taken care of with only the price of the deductible.
Im glad you complained to Nissan Corporate because Cerritos was being shady..

^Thats the last step, I'm gonna wait and see what the CA Bar says.
And Mike yeah there was another thread about Cerritos Nissan, I also warned that guy never to take his Z there as well, I only took my Z there last year because I knew that my tranny was covered under warranty, I never imagined that they could F up something so small that creates such a big problem.

Yeah it seems like a large majority of the O.C. Nissan service departments are just Hot garbage.
damn... sorry to hear panda. i remember there was another post pretty recent about cerritos nissan's poor service. i got a friend who's a service advisor at nissan(not cerritos) if you ever need miinor stuff done.
^THX for the concern, but if you can shoot me your buddies name and which dealership he's at I'd appreciate it. If worse comes to worse and Nissan U.S.A steps in and tells me to tow my Z to a dealership I'll take it to him.
shieeet. well, take care of your business bro. really sucks to hear that big dealerships like cerritos nissan has such stupid mechanics. keep us update on what is going on. maybe we all can learn something from this.
^You got me there, I should have learned my lesson then lol.
But I needed a new tranny at the time dam 3rd gear was annoying, and they were the only local dealership that had a CD009 instock at that time, but now I need a whole lotta new stuff.
