Attended Solo2 Driving School
For all of you interested in autocross, i highly recommend the California Sports Car Club Solo2 driving school. It is a weekend event held every so often.
I just attended the school this past weekend at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino. 7am-3pm Sat and 7am-4:30pm Sun. There was another 350Z in Chrome Silver there. I met the driver Luke...nice fellow...good luck too, he got into the passenger seat and i set a new personal record for the day in my car.
Lots of driving with personal in-car instruction from national competition level autocrossers.
Saturday was basics and driving drills...lots of drive time to practice.
Sunday was timed autocross laps. It was a larger than usual track that ran 65-80 seconds depending on your level. We all ran 14 laps on this track...in other words, craploads of competition drive time. I started off at ~77.5 secs and my best was a 74.253. I did spin out once (89.9sec) and that was cool.
Everyone was really nice too...not competitive or anything.
All this for $90.00. You won't learn the limits of your Z unless you go to driving school and you won't find this level of training for $90.00 anywhere else. BTW...I've heard this again and again...good autocrossers will make good road racers but good road racers won't necessarily be good autocross racers.
It was simply a fantastic weekend (worth getting up at 5am on sat and sun to make the 1hr drive).
