Default san diego, places to go, things to do

I am planning out some things for my honeymoon, we are keeping it somewhat affordable and there are multiple things we wanted to see in San Diego, so that's where we are going.

what are some of the most impressive places you know about? we will be there for a little over a week and we really only have about three days worth of things planned out.

we don't mind driving a couple of hours either.

appreciate the advice, and the lols in advance. I'd post this in the regional area but I like mixed input, both from those who live in the area and just those who have traveled there.

arg why did ya move it trodis :/. local opinions are great, but I think once you live in an area you became too complacent with your surroundings. I know I've had friends come to Seattle and there are things they would have loved to see, but I am too used to it being normal to be exciting.

wanted to get some travelers opinion as well as the locals : P

I had an elaborate and well thought out response, but it was moved to the regional section. I now lack motivation since less eyes will fall upon my review.

Anyhow...
There is tons to do here for newly weds but I'll just type whatever comes to mind:

I would just stick in Downtown San Diego. "Gaslamp" area like on 7th street has an endless row of restaurants. This connects to "Seaport Village" which is like a pier that has little "romantic" shops if you're into that stuff. If you're into baseball, you can catch a game at Petco Park since it's right there next to Gaslamp.

Go to the Marriot on 6th street (we have two Marriots) and go to the roof-top bar called "Altitude". It's an older more mature crowd. You can grab a couple drinks there and enjoy a view of our Convention center, Petco Park, as well as the Harbor. There is a fire pit in case your lady gets cold. After that, you can stroll up and down Gaslamp and hop into any lounge/bar if you like the live music.

"Balboa Park" is huge with Museums and gardens if you're into photography or history. There is a space and aviaton museum there as well.

If you want a more "cultural" experience, "Oldtown" on the outskirts of downtown is a good spot. It's basically a hub of Mexican restaurants, bars, shops and buildings from back in the Mission days. "The Whaley House", one of America's most 'haunted' historical landmarks also resides in Oldtown.

One thing I hear about San Diego that people really can't get enough is the "street style" taco shops. The sit down restaurants are pretty much like any other spot, but we're famous for our fast food style taco shops. Basically any spot that ends with "-ertos" like "Albertos" or "Robertos" etc... Try some "Carne Asada fries" or "California Burrito". You go 2 hours north to Los Angeles and the flavor is not even the same.

All I can think of for now.

check out the many breweries that we have in San Diego County. We are now the #1 city for micro breweries in the world.

http://sandiegobrewersguild.org/

lots of info on that site Stone brewing Co. is one of if not the best in my opinion. They have a beautiful brewery with top notch food to go with the amazing beer.

First and foremost you should check out Thads!

www.thads.com

LOL... Seriously though, +1 on Downtown/Gaslamp/Seaport Village area... Coronado Island is a must, very beautiful place... Seaworld, San Diego Zoo/Wild animal park... If you want to go to a really laid back/chill bar scene, up and down Garnet Ave. in Pacific Beach there's tons of bars...

You can hit up some of the beaches, I.E.: Imperial Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, Coronado Beach, La Jolla Shores, Blacks Beach(topless/nudy)...

You can go to the malls: google westfield malls in san diego

Thats all I can think of at the moment... I'll put some more suggestions later...

Everything that has been mentioned above are very great recommendations. Only thing is the seafood isn't as great as back home like Ivar's

Honey moon type stuff, me and my gf had a couples package massage thing at carlsbad resort and spa and it was awesome . They even provide a private hot tub and chocolate strawberries with champange. Little pricey though but it was a real nice day out.

La jolla also has some pretty nice snorkeling excursion things. Dinner cruises are also very nice couples things.
