Default california emissions and the z??

i got a fix it ticket it today from a bike cop on the way to the airport to drop off a buddy of mine. i was cited for tinted windows no front plate and emission for my exhaust and nismo cia.
after trying to explain to him that the nismo cai is a factory part he still proceeded to write it up for it. Anyway so my question is to those that have dealt with the California ref system and emissions before.
will my hks exhaust and nismo cia pass inspection or am i going to have to bite the bullet and take the point to my license for the emissions code that im supposedly violating. As well for anybody whos had experience with this when i take my car into the ref what kind of inspection is it, visual or do they hook up my car and test it for smog right then and there

Nismo CAI is not a "factory part". It is part of the R-Tuned family of aftermarket parts which come with the following warning label:

R-tune: These products do not carry any type of warranty and the following warning will apply: “This part has been designed and is intended for off-highway application only. The installation of this part on a vehicle intended for use on public streets or highways may violate laws and regulations relating to motor vehicle safety standards or emission regulations.

You'll have to look up the vehicle codes for California. I'm not entirely sure what kind of inspection they would do, but if its like other ones its just visual. Did the cop write down what it was that you had on (so the inspecting officer knows what to look out for?). I recently got 2 fix-its up in Alpin for tinted windows and tail. Windows, check, illegal, tinted tail, not illegal. Vehicle code specify that tail lamps just much be visible from at least 1000 feet. The cop was never more then 'glued to my ***' so there isn't a very good chance that he could accurately judge from a thousand feet. but then again, its not their job to accurately judge for fix-its. its their job to write your butt up, and your job to disprove them. First, research the vehicle codes for intake / exhaust. Take it all off before the inspection, then if your feel you are in the right (or dont care) put it back on afterwards. what are the chances of a second go around?

By chance, did he pull you over for something else and just tack those on? thats extremely common. Cop went up and down mine looking for anything and only got me for those. Either way, the price we pay for being noticed gl

Its hard not to be noticed running around with an unpainted body kit and we were cruising in the carpool lane doing 75 with the flow of traffic.
lucky for me i have all my stock parts at home except my exhaust which is the part im particularly worried about. Since when was a cia illegal then again it is cali and they'll get you for anything
He wrote me up for intake and exhaust. mod and emissions (27156)

I got an intake citation a while back ago in a mustang gt I had. Just for the intake alone I had to take my car to the ref. and they did a full visual inspection as in raised the car and checked the cats to make sure they are factory. They tested my car to check if it would pass smog. Luckily I had the stock intake and the cop didn't get me for no cats lol thats a hefty fine. So all I did was swap my intake and install the stock H-pipe on the mustang and it was good to go no problems passing the inspection/test.

If it doesn't have a CARB sticker on it, then it's not legal in CA.

If the exhaust is simply a catback or axleback /it is perfectly legal. The only thing that would be considered emissions tampering would be modications done to anything from the Catalyst forward.

They would only be able to site you for the exhaust if you were over the legal decibel limit. And if you do not have a CARB EO sticker for the CAI

<- advanced emissions specialist aka smog technician

Don't bring a car with no front license plate and tint to the airport. I can guarantee 80% of the time you come back with a fix-it ticket.

or an unpainted body kit :/ not trying to be a dick, but san diego cops are notorious for pulling people over with obvious mods. the inspection for the exhaust is usually you just go outside turn the key and the officer will either say yah or nay. Worst case is he makes you step on the gas.

the cops can give you a ticket for altering any part of the emission system. doesn't matter if the exhaust is "legal" or not. i got a fix-it ticket for my exhaust a few weeks back and it's correctable. i had it signed off and stuff. but in your case, op, they put on the ticket you have to get ref'ed right?

they will put the sniffer on and also test for the decible at like 50 ft away for your exhaust or something like that to see if it passes. from what i have experienced in the past, those ref doods are pretty cool and chill guys, i know ppl that went to the ref with an aftermarket exhaust, with the silencers in, and passed with flying colors. their setup was injen intakes and greddy dual exhaust on the hr z, oem cats. as an example for the z.
