Typical Questions & Answers:
Q: Are these the "Nismo S-Tune" shocks?
A: NO, these are the ORIGINAL shocks & springs from an '08 350Z Nismo (not mine, actually from one with LESS miles than mine). They were developed by Yamaha for Nissan Motorsport and BUILT by Tokico (thanks, Dean )
You can read my assessment wherein I proclaim that the Nismo is "...the best handling car I've ever owned in out-of-the-box STOCK form" and that's mostly attributed to this shock spring set-up.
Car will sit at about 5-7mm lower than any '07-08 350Z. However, if you wish to lower your car with these shocks/struts AND maintain the same ride quality - which is extremely good for a performance GT car - recommend using Tanabe NF210 springs which have the same (pretty close) spring rates as the Nismo springs but offer ~1.0-1.2" lowering.
But frankly, it'd be a waste of money, IMO. This set up - as is - just plain works.
Hey, Mic I was looking at your setup somewhat interested in it, how much stiffer is it than the 2006 350Z Oem setup also Was looking at this setup at CZP Tein GSP26-1UAS2 Street Basis Coilovers for 665.00 plus shipping honest opinion what's your best comparison I really trust your opinion, I want a bit more sporty suspension but I really like the Oem feel of my 2006 suspension but willing to compromise Thanks for your feedback!

OK, at the risk of sounding like I'm overselling and just trying to move these, I'll say this:
I do NOT know how the Tein COs ride so I cannot offer a direct comparison.
I do KNOW that I am NOT partial to coilovers for street applications. I know how low I want my cars from the get-go so have NO need for height adjustment that I won't ever use.
I do like some adjustability in compression/rebound control to suit differing unsprung weight BUT is NOT necessary if the shocks are done right.... factory, Bilstein, Tokico Blues, etc. All proven units.
So, with that said and out of the way....
Nismo shock set up is surprisingly compliant. But it shouldn't be a surprise because it's a factory system which still has to meet certain "showroom qualities" and that means a "decent" ride vis a vis an aftermarket back-killing suspension.
OK, I gave up on such jarring suspensions years ago when I learned that it isn't about "how stiff" a ride I could tolerate; it's about how much suspension movement I want for my application and the ride quality tradeoff I'm willing to accept. In this case, the Nismo OEM setup is pretty near perfect FOR ME. It has a certain percentage more "stiffness" that I can feel over a non-Nismo but it's not AT ALL bothersome.
However, the performance delta is huge. While the "feel" is estimated at 10-15% stiffer than stock, the actual increase in chassis performance FEELS like more... in the "25% better" range.
Yes, these are all butt dyno guesstimate #s that don't corroborate with anything. However, don't take it lightly when I say I give this setup the props in making my Nismo the best handling stock car I've ever driven or owned. And I compare this to my other Z, my former Nismo 370, BMWs, Porsche, etc.
I have brand new street basis system waiting for install but had these been posted up a few months earlier I would have probably went with these... I just wanted to replace my 12 year old parts.
The Teins are an attractive option if your in the market for some new suspension though... I got mine from THmotorsports... Lowest price I found and free shipping. Arrived in 2 days.
^he has extra set his wifes brother sent him overnight from Japan
Not quite. I bought the Nismo shock/springs from a fellow my350z member locally. Wife's cousin ackshully sent me S-Tune springs - which are not included in this set; stock Nismo springs only - but who's counting? Good memory, Mikey.
