Oil Change Question...
Hey there, it's about time for me to do my first oil change since owning my Z and I had a couple of of questions. I figured I wuld ask people from Texas since our weather is different than other parts of the country. First question, how often do you change your oil? I've heard every 3000, 5000, 7000 etc. Second, what kind of oil and filter do you use? I used Mobil 1 Oil and filter in my last car. Third, how much oil do our cars hold? And lastly how easy of a job is it? Whre is the drainage bolt, filter, etc. I know these questions are rookie but better safe than sorry!
Thanks -
jason
ps. wish I would have known about the "mini-meet"!

Is up to you what kind of oil you use, but you should find out what type of oil the local dealer recomends. As for how often you should change your oil the books recomends as early as 3k but never past 3,750.

I use amsoil pure synthetic 5W-40 and the amsoil filter as well. Worked like a charm so far. I change my oil every 6 months or 7500 miles even though the oil is rated for 1 yr or 25k. Amsoil is magical stuf, try it and you will never go back. Mobil1 is good too, just a little thin and tends to reduce alot.

i use Royal Purple 10W 30......5.1 Quarts is what our cars hold...but 5 quarts will be fine for the change. if you drive really hard i suggest a change every 3k mi. if you drive normal then 4-5k mi is fine
Do most of you guys change your oil yourself? I'd take it somewhere but I've heard stories of of people paying for a better oil and just getting the cheap stuff put in by the attendent anyway. Is it pretty easy to change the oil in Z's?

Yes.
And I use Mobil 1 or Royal Purple oil and put the OEM oil filter on the Z.

Quote I use Royal Purple 5W-30. I have mine changed every 3000 miles.
Thats a waste. If your running quality synthetic then the oil will last much longer. If your truly paranopid then change your filter every 3k. I changed my amsoil after my first 3k and the oil looked the same out as it did in. The filter is rated for 6k and the oil for 25k. I doubted it until my state trooper buddies started running it in their cars and not changing the oil until the 25k mark with no problems at all. As for those that run dyno oil flush it out and run a quality synthetic just one time and you will never go back. You can definitly tell the difference between dyno oil and syn oil.

And it's never a waste trying to take care of your vehicle! Plus, I actually drive mine...and take it down the track so I don't see it as a waste. But hey, thanks for sharing.
