Default Anywhere to drive around Houston?

After driving with Austin 350z members on some very nice routes, I was wondering if we have anything close to it around Houston area. It doesn't have to be in town, as long as it's within an hour drive or so.. Anyone knows any secret routes that are worth checking out? Thanks!

Not Houston Exactly but there are some really nice roads similar to those in Conroe. I can point out one in particular if you are interested. We used to ride our street bikes on it when I was in high school. It was a blast. May have a little more traffic though now days.

The area we drove is part of the Hill Country. Area East of Austin to Houston is relatively flat, so you will have difficulty finding anything close to that. Check the map to see if there are some small hill near Houston.

Thumbs up

On April 5th (Sat.) the Z Club of Houston will be doing our annual Bluebonnet Run (affectionately known as the "blurbonnet run" up around the Brenham Area. Nice rolling hills in that area. Houston is about as terrain-intersting as the surface of a pool table.
I'm still working on putting it together (my wife just repainted the room and I can't find a DAMN thing anymore!) so details are sparse at this point. Keep updated at:

Hope you can come out and play !

Please keep up posted so long as you don't mind some Ex-Houstonians showing up for it.

OK here is the route we used to take. We would go on the route that is blue. You would come up 249 and I believe it changes to 149 in Tomball on the way to Magnolia. Road across the middle of Lake Conroe is 1097. There is a long bridge (1097 bridge) that we used to fly down on our bikes 120+. The bridge has a nice up and down bumps all the way. You can get a nice rhythm going. The route in black is 105. DO NOT SPEED ON THAT ROAD!!!!! The reason I included that was because that is the side of the lake that has the water front bars...Pappas Ice house and Banana Bay. Might come in handy if you have your gal or want to take a break after the drive....nice views in the summer. It's also the Walden and Del Lago area. Nice places to stay for a weekend. But 105 is cop filled. One more time NO SPEEDING ON THAT ROAD!!!! As I recall and mind you this was back in 1990, the road way great for taking the bikes out on. Good mixture of winding and straight. Things may have changed but worth a try.

zcardave,

Hopefully, you guys extend the invitation to CZOT club members. We had Houston and Dallas Z folks joined us last week for our club event. https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=19677

Touring 6MT....
are you kidding? EVERYBODY is welcome to come to our events.
Several years ago we had a dude and his girlfriend show up in their Chevy truck with a big honkin' camper on the back!...and the crazy part was...he KEPT UP !!! I was watching him in my mirror.
I didn't know that a vehicle could lean that much without rolling over. When we got to lunch, his girlfriend was complaining because there was "blue water" everywhere inside the camper.

Usually the guys (and gals) from the Brazos Valley Z Club meet us for lunch and then do their own tour going back home.
We would love to have the Austin Crew, San Antonio Crew, Dallas Crew and anyone in between, join us !
Besides....I want to see Rodel's new ride !

Vova151 is right on! That is a great route - I can just picture a ton of Z's cruising up to Conroe on 249/149. I used to live on the lake in Montgomery, TX and would often come "down the backside" through Tomball instead of fighting it out on I-45. Used to do this in a Honda Prelude Si, which was fun - in a Z it would be AWESOME. The trip over the 1097 bridge is also a good finishing route - then head on down to 105 and Pappas Ice House right on the lake.

I definitely agree on the no speeding on 105 - its been widened now and is even more of a haven for cops than before. I've subsidized Montgomery County and the City of Conroe more than once due to the flurry of speeding tickets raining down all over this road!

zcardave,

Thanks! That should be fun, meeting up midway between Austin and Houston. I'll pass the word to Redel at our club meeting Monday.
