Now that the Z has a new engine, VQ35HR, the S cannot keep up any more.

So thats a mute point.
Up until this year it could.

All you said was that the S will keep up with a Z. You did not specify which Z, so I assumed you were talking about all the 350Zs. Hence, my above post is still a valid one.
BTW, the S2000 became a 2.2 Liter from a 2.0 Liter in 2004. Its horsepower stayed the same at 240, but the tq went up from 153 to 162. The slight decrease in hp down to 237 was from a new SAE rating for measuring HP.
At any rate, the S and the Z (DE engines) are comparable. On the predominantly straight trackss, the Z will edge out the S. On infinitely curvy tracks, the S will edge out the Z. Choosing what you like between the two is all personal prefence.

Going to a 2.2 liter didn't do anything to make it faster just easier for DD.
But yes the two cars are comparable.

What makes you prefer the Z.
I'm the other way around. I like my S2000 better than the Z because its lighter, is a drop top, a lot rarer, and it takes more skill to drive I think.

I almost buy an S2000, a couple years ago. I walk into Honda dealer after reading many article about the S2000. Before, I decided to buy it....I tell the saleman I want a test drive.
Right when I get inside the S2000, I changed my mind. There's absolutly nothing to look at....its like a Civic with leather seat.
From having an Evo 8, I learned my lesson. Despite how fast a car is, and how well it handle,...you WILL spend most of the time INSIDE it and driving it UNDER traffic laws. So, to me, it really comes down to how does the car make you feels inside it. How does it make you feels when you stop at the redlight, How does it feels to be stuck inside the car during traffic hours and morning rush, How does it feels when you just simply sit inside it.
I like simplicity, but S2000 interior is not "simplicity"....it's "boring".

That's one thing that bothers me. All these people talk about how the S is more driver oriented and harder to drive blah blah blah.
Most of these people can't drive for ****. So why do they want a harder car to drive?
BTW, post more pics of that hot S2000, please.

i've only heard from my honda head of a friend that the AP1 was hard to drive compared to AP2. this was understandable to me because he came from a DC2 GSR. totally different driving experience

I removed the soft top and bought the hard top, I enjoyed the hatchback interior.
Traffic sucks, and still does even with the Z.

honestly....the s2000 is really hard to compare to the Z because it all has to do with drivers. stock for stock.....with the same driver, the Z will win. but look at chris' freaking track times (3hree5ive0ero). ive seem him drive and hes definately one of the better ones on the road, which goes to show that his 1/4 mile time is only a couple tenths off from a boosted s2k running 5-6 pounds of boost!
if deciding between the 2, definately just go for what you like better and your plans for the car.

It takes more work to drive it fast. Not taking anything away from the Z but it is easier to drive.
