Racing Time Slip database - Thinking...
I'm a software and web developer. I want to keep a record of all my 1/4 mile track times. I found another such site here: http://www.dragtimes.com
But would rather create my own. Thus I could review/average, etc, etc all of my race hstory.
I've got a domain parked called zexpressway.com that I could use for this.
Anyone be interested in this tyoe of thingy? I'd rather keep it to the Z/G/Datsun/Nissan community or mayby just Z cars...
I could use some ideas putting it together.
I have 218 race tracks already in place
Need to create the timeslip table, users table, and god knows what else.
I'm going to manually input my own 9 slips, from 3 race nights, to get me started.
Thanks...

Would you log slips to track specific? If so I think that is a great idea.....times across the US are different because of numerous factors.
So if you did local tracks as catagories then people could see what people run at the same local.

I'm still in design/thinking stage.
There'd need to be fields for your car number, day/night, temperature, and so on.

creed, are you going to have the program graph the numbers like a dyno readout also? or just have a register for your numbers...
i think it would be pretty cool to see a graph layout of your times for a visual examination... make sure you patent this if you can... it might be worth some $$$... so you can mod your car even more!!! lol
edit: also if you can, have the event's runs averaged to one number, then get an overall average r/t, 60', etc.
i'm not quite sure how all this would be done but IMO some great ideas...

I'm thinking I will host it on my server. I've been working with PHP/MySQL for web development for about a year now. I haven't done the upload thing yet, but will need to eventually.

On the averages you mention, about one number, I'm not sure I know what you mean; averaged to 1 number. Can you paint me a picture please
Once I get some of this layed out, I'll need some testers. Once we go live, I'll need moderators and admins depending on how many users sign up.
If it grows, I may need to move it to another server somewhere.
Thanks for the input guys. Keep the ideas coming...
This idea has come up many times before. There's a few sites already that's doing this. Still a good idea nonetheless.
BTW, I don't see why you'd need an average of numbers, because each run is different. Every number on your time slip is there for a reason, so averaging them to get one number for each category (60', r/t, et, trap, etc) makes no sense to me.
I think that each person should be REQUIRED to post time slips, list of mods, track info, climate conditions, type of tires used, transmission, and car info at the very least. However, just the above mentioned alone will take a lot of space and work. For example, track info alone is elevation, type of track, length of track, type of tree, etc.
Anyway, I personally don't use sites that already does this stuff (they aren't as in depth though). People usually lie, leave things out, or whatever to make themselves look better online. Plus, I think most sites just have one huge list of the best times, instead of categorizing by tracks or cars or whatever.
I'd still like to see it happen, at least for the Texas tracks for comparison as I only race in TX.

reason being, if it's a bad time like my suck a$$ 60'... 2.18 then i wouldn't have to dig through a bunch of information to find out my "average" time. do you kinda see where i'm going with this one?
so any given driver will have displayed (without going through his/her history) a best time and an "average" time... and by average i mean most frequently occuring... (thanks for the correction
so Chris even though your best time is 13.665 or something... i believe your most frequently occuring is 13.8ish??? so that would be displayed...
basically showing what you can hit consistantly... anyone can get lucky just once...
prove your skill not your luck
I see what you're saying. It'll show your consistent times on top of your best. My sig shows a 13.584, btw.
If you click on it, you can also see 3 other runs from that night. They were done back to back too.

Hey Chris, those are consisten times. I wish I could do that, LOL.
Ok as far as this timeslip database goes, I fool around with my own times and the 3 events I have so far, and then get back with you guys to go look, and let me know what needs to be changed, etc.
Thanks for all your input!
