I've got a phone interview with Halliburton coming up... Any members here work for them? If so, any comments?

How is Houston as a city? I'm looking for general feedback here, so just a few pros and cons would be helpful.

 

I have a friend that works there in the service tools group. I work for a competitor!

Not Schluberger either...LOL! It is a smaller competitor.

Depending on the area of Houston you will live depends on how ghetto it is. I don't live in the Houston city limits. The surrounding areas are much nicer.

 

Why would you want to work for Halliburton?

 

so he can get that BIG money.......

 

halliburton is a massive company... its sad but sometimes you have to put your "ideas" on the back burner to make good money.


what would you be doing for the company?

their main office is on the north west side close to george bush airport, so i would assume you would want to live somewhere in the area. north west side of town is nice.

I would be a field technology engineer, basically oil and natural gas exploration and drilling consulting. Thats promising that its on the nice side of town...

I've had a lot of interest in my resume lately, so we'll see where that goes.

 

Houston is nice and all. But I don't think I can ever be a Republican.

I live on the North side by I45 and 1960 and its pretty nice. A lot of new housing and neighborhoods have sprung up for cheap which has led to some bad pockets but overall its a nice area.

 

Two of my friends (One Industrial Engineer, One Nuclear Engineer) are both field engineers for Schluberger. They both work on an off-shore rig down in Venezuela, and like it. They said the work is tough, but the pay, benefits and bonuses can't be beat. If anything, do it for a few years to build up some savings, and go back to a 9-5 job. Nothing like making close to 100k (salary & bonuses) straight out of college.

 

I wish I had started out in engineering, dont know how much I can do with a finance degree now adays and make decent money out of college.

 

F%%k! I work for a competitor :-P but I live in the west side.. lot more fun down there... I was for a month on 1960 but there (imho) sucks.

(fun means 20 miles of fast driving, tt bar, clubs, chicks.. not too far, )

and about safety... too safe is also too boring.

My best friends dad works for Halliburton, Steve Bell is his name. Not sure what he does, he works at the office up here in North Dallas (Addison-ish area).

 

Over at Kurkyndahl(sp?). Its a couple lights west of I45 on 1960 but not as far as Veterans Memorial. Its like I said though there are some bad pockets around here. But you were also just a street or two away from neighborhoods like Champions and Northgate and a lot of other newer ones that are really nice.

approacching galleria area... that's SO different!!!!

and price for apartment aren't so high too... yeah, maybe a little bit.
